Interesting. I wonder if that's been confirmed by any reaonsably systematic research. Different dog breeds definitely have very different instincts, and this could be an example. When I was a kid, my family would go out to a cabin we had in the woods, and had to drive by a farm to get there. There was some sort of herding dog that lived on the farm, and it *always* tried to herd our car. It just instinctively ran out in front of anything that was moving in a linear direction. Fortunately for the dog, it was a narrow buumpy gravel road, so no speeding going on there.

If you search by the year there are lists of the number
of bites for that year,,,
IIRC about 60%+ of people killed/mauled are by pits...
