What does Palin need to do to lower her unfavoribles ?

Posted on 02/11/2010 4:11:59 PM PST by se_ohio_young_conservative

Do a majority of Americans honestly believe she is stupid ? I mean, seriously ?

How can her unfavoribles be so high ? What did she do wrong ? What is she not doing right ?

What does she need to do ? Take a nationally televised IQ test ?

I don't understand why so many regular people think the way they do about her. What happened ?

When you are the target of unrelenting media attacks your “unfavorables” are going to be high. Remember this if one day you should ever decide to go against the tide in any public way; the media will take you to pieces and your friends and family won’t recognize you from what they see in the papers; you’ll be lucky if they’ll still want to be seen in public with you. Seriously.

The way you deal with this is, first, to know who you are and what you are about. And then, as Palin herself said, you just plow ahead. As people begin to understand who you are all your attackers are exposed for what they are. In that sense, painful as it is, the more the media attacks her the better because at the end of the day she will still be standing and they will be exposed. Thats why its usually only the very young and the very dim who are most likely to fall for this kind of thing; if you’re a bit older you’ve seen this before again and again. Remember Bork; remember Judge Thomas. Remember just about every conservative who ever dared to stand up in public.

Actually, yes.... or at least, that she's not intelligent enough for national office. It's probably not fair, but perception is an extremely powerful force in politics, and the comedy shows did a real number on her among those who inhabit the great political middle.

Sarah Palin's folksy mannerisms and sayings merely reinforce the perception -- it's difficult to imagine her trying to control Iran's ambitions with a wink and a perky "you betcha."

If Sarah Palin wants to shed the unfortunate perception, she's got to start talking like a serious heavyweight, and she's got to start talking about serious subjects in a responsible manner.

I don't think she can overcome the perception problem at this point, but it is by far her biggest political hurdle -- so that's where she needs to focus her efforts.

What does Palin need to do to lower her unfavoribles ?

You mean short of lowering her unmentionables?

She has to show that she's competent and professional. That doesn't mean being slick and glib. It does mean being prepared, having answers when she's asked questions, and not trying to excuse or justify poor performance.

"Sounds like you rely too much on what the media tells you."

Is what you said to the poster's original thesis question of...

"What does Palin need to do to lower her unfavoribles"

Apparently, you either don't believe in unfavorables, or you don't believe that Palin has any unfavorables. I'm curious, which is it? Do "unfavorables" exist? And if they, what are Palins? And, even if you believe her unfavorables are minimal, don't you think it's possible for her to lower them.

I see way too many people that are either incapable of or willing to engage in an intellectual discussion about Palin's perception problems with the general electorate. Instead, you attack a guy who's just asking a question - a question that given every piece of scientific polling I have seen is legitimate.

Hilary Clinton had monstrous unfavorables. Hilary Clinton isn't President. Might there be a correlation? I think there probably is.

I don’t think Obama even has knowledge. I don’t even think he’s even very bright. When he speaks without his telecrutch, you quickly see his incoherent thought processes and ignorance.

"Why on earth would any President NEED a head full of Political Trivia?"

A president has to make decisions. Decisions at that level usually require wisdom, character AND enough knowledge to know whether your advisers are steering your right.

1. Use less of the same phrases over and over ie,”common sense solutions”
2. Talk more specifically about the “world”..ie Iran; Iraq, etc.Use some examples here.
3. Cut out a lot of “cutesy” stuff, like the hand stuff...ie, quit ‘playing with” the media. In fact, end that whole discussion about the past media stuff and the present.
4. Talk more specifics of how she governed Alaska.
5. Talk about “energy” sources which she knows a lot about.
6. Connect herself in her talks to past female leaders, Thatcher, Golda Mier and now Merkel by referring to them and using analogies or examples.
7. Talk about WHY low taxes work and how her economic perspective works.
8. Connect herself to other conservative leaders thru references or comparisons.

Palin has a tough time ahead of her. Her natural strength is her honesty, values and personna. Ironically the fact that she is a vibrant, beautiful woman is something she has to “overcome” as we still do not put two and two together, ie, a lovely woman and a strong female leader. It is weird, but a female leader almost has to neutralize themselves.
the lovely “long locks” have to go.

I am not saying she should try to downplay her attractiveness, but this is a fine line.

I just don’t take her seriously politically when I listen to her, until she calms down and starts discussing something specific. For example, when she talks about energy or alaska she sounds so much more competent...( not saying she isn’t competent overall).

I think she is very intelligent and capable, but she is a female and that is still risky for most voters. Obama is way less competent than she is but he is a male and came off calm and unruffled in the campaign and that gave him an air of “pseudo strength.”

"odumbos minions do the polling"

That's an interesting hypothesis. If accurate, I wonder why "Odumbo's minions" didn't fix the public opinoin results for the Obamacare initiative, which is highly unpopular in that same poll, or the Obama plan to try terrorist in civilian court, again very unpopular in that very same poll.

Isn't it interesting that they could help out a brother on Palin, but are keen to throw him under the bus with his own popularity and initiatives.

Like I said, you have an interesting theory.

She needs to be elected to something and stick with the job for the full term. US Congress, US Senate, something like that.

“I don’t understand why so many regular people think the way they do about her. What happened?”

Sarah Palin represents everything that’s finest in American life and traditions. There are, quite clearly, a great many people within our borders who hate those traditions and that way of life, and would prefer to see them subverted and, ultimately, destroyed.

One more point. Media polling has two main purposes.

First, its filler. It gives the impression of being news so that its readers have the impression that they are actually informed, and thus displaces the need to report actual information.

And secondly, and most importantly, it is feedback for propagandists, to tell them how effective their propaganda is, where it is failing, and what they have to do to refocus their efforts. Polling is feedback for propagandists.

I’ve been a freeper for over ten years. I’m sorry, but I have concerns about Palin’s resume. Small-town mayor and governor of a state that has half the population of my County is not enough experience to qualify for the most powerful office in the world.

Obama isn’t qualified either, but just because the opposition elects someone out of their league doesn’t mean we should do so as well.

Reagan had two terms of governor of California, which had an economy bigger than most countries in the world. He understood what an executive is supposed to do.

We’ve got qualified conservatives in the party, like Duncan Hunter and Paul Ryan and Eric Cantor. That’s a better direction to go.

You have brought out an important point about Sarah's perception by the culture. I am glad you did. This perception is continuously being massaged by the State Controlled Media. This negative perception problem is the largest challenge faced by Sarah. I have no idea how she can overcome it. I am certain it is one she will work hard over the months ahead to overcome. I have confidence she does have a plan. How she does it will make political history.

There is a huge disconnect in these polls.

1) Sarah Palin draws maximum capacity, and sometimes record breaking crowds at any event she attends.

2) Going Rogue is one of the, if not the, biggest selling memoir in history

3) Palin on any show guarantees a huge ratings boost (Oprah’s ratings doubled when Palin was on, Chris Wallace got his highest rating ever in the 6 years he’s been doing his Sunday morning show. 20/20 had its highest ratings in a couple of years when Palin was interviewed by Barbara Walters.)

4) Palin on the cover of any magazine increases sales.

5) SarahPAC, with very little fundraising, has stayed pretty close to Romney who has done a lot of fundraising events for his PAC.

6) In Dec a CNN poll found that 65 percent thought that Palin was “not your usual politician,” and scored extremely high in regards to honesty, integrity, compassion, and all other character traits, and “cares about the issues I care about,” the only one below 50 percent was “leadership ability” which came in at 49 percent.

I suspect the low favorable ratings that some polls, particularly those put out by CBS, WaPo, ABC, and NYT, are rigged, and part of the psychological warfare that the left is waging. As 0bama’s numbers decline, they have to come out with a poll showing that Palin’s numbers are even worse, whenever she gets a lot of publicity, as with the TEA Party Convention, book tour, interviews, etc., they trot out yet another poll showing that she is disliked even more than before.

I admit, Palin has work to do in regards to her poll numbers, but I don’t think they are nearly as bad as some of these polls show.

Unfavorables?

What she shouldn't do is try to appeal to everyone or she'll end up like any RINO who has decided that his life is nothing unless the liberals like him.
