Letter I sent to GOP dot com

This is free advice, but it is NOT worthless. Read on.

You guys need help BIG TIME. If you have a committee that ponders strategies for reaching distinct demographic pockets with the GOP message, that is good. It is MUCH needed, because many "assumed" democrat niches would be shocked to hear/see/read about the policies their democrat party supports. They need educating.

I know from personal experience (born American-Irish democrat Catholic) that many people simply are expected to vote democrat, it's tradition. As you know, this lazy tradition stands in the way of republican party's platform acceptance. These traditionally "democrat voting blocks" CAN be reached, and converted. I know, I do it on a personal level all the time, and my 30 years experience in marketing and advertising has trained me to "sell" conservatism to blacks, college kids, hispanics, soccer moms, teachers, punk rockers, musicians, and teenagers.

The trick is in carefully crafting the message, tailoring it for each demographic niche so that they receive the "Ah-HA!" moment. Marketing works, history proves it. In 1980 Ronald Reagan hired good Madison Avenue minds to create his TV ads, and he found good advertising experts who specialized in manufacturing good will. America "learned" about his basic message of conservatism. It worked beautifully... back then.

Your problem today is that Madison Avenue is now contaminated with liberalism top to bottom. They have been selling hip hop culture, girls gone wild, bling, hyper consumerism, instant gratification and green thinking for so many years now, they cannot be trusted to understand, let alone promote, the republican ethos.

I report all this by way of trying to help, because I fear for my nation if democrats run our country much longer. Their race to tyranny is alarming, and it works only because the average citizen is softened to accept liberal and marxist solutions. This horrible crew: Obama/Pelosi/Reid/Frank/Dodd/etc, they must be defeated with clever brainpower and the republican party MUST engage on the cultural battlefield. The GOP must bring a knife to a knife fight. The cultural battlefield is NOT Sunday morning cable talk shows or speeches on the Senate floor.

The real battle for America's mind is waged in the entertainment industry and in marketing. Marketing is the art of selling things that people can, really, do without. Smart marketing demands that you approach the consumer straight up, as he is, not as you wish he were, it's the last honest science. I don't "wish" my target niche would buy my client's widget, I discover exactly what that niche wants... it's secret dreams and yearnings... and then I strongly imply that my widget fulfills them. If they buy my doohickey, they will join the cool clique, Voila! It's not as easy as you might imagine, modern Americans are wary of being sold, they must be tricked into thinking it was their idea all along to purchase that iPod.

The same way I can sell $4.00 cups of coffee, car video systems, $300. basketball shoes and racing bicycles, I can sell conservatism, it's all the same discipline. I'm not bragging, but I've been in guerilla marketing a long time and I'm good at this. It's not exactly brain surgery, but it is much harder than the ad guys at big agencies can imagine. Their giant budgets prevent them from discovering clever ways to uncover the psychology of their target audience. Too big to get it. This is the domain of guerilla marketers like me.

So, the bottom line: I'm offering my expertise to the party, in hopes of winning back millions of voters. No, I'm not seeking a job or money, I'm offering my time and skills in order to save my nation from ruin. I'm a Tea Party man who WILL NOT accept RINO behavior and will not help promote it.

I know how to turn Mexican-Americans into GOP voters, how to create millions more black republicans, how to convince soccer moms that Palin is not a fool, how to attract high school students, how to reach inside the universities (ground zero of liberal indoctrination) and mine new conservatives. I know the formula to re-branding the GOP from old man's politics to young voter's politics. Done right, a tough new campaign can do two things: win 40 million new voters and also embarrass the democrats into oblivion. They will exhaust themselves replying to new hilarious ridicule.

It would entail hiring young film makers, copywriters, bloggers and web experts, mining the secret right for brave new talent. 50% of America votes Republican, but you'd never know it by watching the popular culture. This battle takes guts, money, talent and a wicked sense of humor.

Or... you can keep doing it YOUR way. Your way isn't working, have you noticed? Whatever marketing experts you employ now are either bad at this, or they are good and you ignore their advice. Perhaps you are inflicted with the crybaby gene, you don't want to start arguments and you run from bullies. Fine, keep running to the left and keep losing. The conservative movement is IN movement, the energy at my local tea party was visceral and genuine. Ignore conservatives at your peril Grand Old Party.

You've been offered help, free of charge. I pray you have the guts to reply, as it costs you nothing. The real question is: do you have the courage to accept a thoughtful critique of your marketing approach?

Respectfully

Brian Sisson

ps: I'm BCCing some networks and newspapers on this letter, and I'm posting it online on important blogs. No, that's not a threat, it's called smart tactics. As tacticians, you know exactly what that's about. Right?

I'm sick of watching the GOP blow it. I offered a little help. If they don't respond, that's okay as long as they read it.

Brian, I’m sure by now your message is in the same place as Barry Soetoro’s birth certificate.

Thanks! But based on past experience with the CA GOP, I’m not holding my breath. These entities don’t usually welcome constructive criticism. Thin skin makes for bad marketeers.

My whole adult life I’ve been mortified by RNC public relations, as a rule they are such humorless geeks that it makes it hard to support them. The fix is simple but it takes some guts. I’m hoping the tea party folks are smarter than existing RNC drones.
