A family pet is safe thanks to a Samurai sword-wielding teen who rescued the dog from a mountain lion.

The teen actually fought off the big cat, ninja-style!

...scaring the lion away.

Cal DFG has yet to determine if there was actually a lion in the area claimed.

Ah, that explains the paucity of details in the reporting of the story that was posted yesterday from another source. So, maybe someone is looking for his 15 minutes....

oops....

“But the animal that attacked a pit bull owned by Marquel Dawson, 19, Wednesday afternoon wasn’t a mountain lion, as initially reported by numerous media outlets.

“It turns out it was a raccoon, not a mountain lion,” said Patrick Foy, a California Department of Fish and Game warden.

Foy said the teen called media first to report that a mountain lion had pounced on his pooch in his Fairfield backyard and he was able to fend it off with his sword. An examination of paw prints left near the site of the tussle show that the animal was likely a large raccoon rather than a cougar.

While they seem cute, raccoons can be ruthless, Foy said.

“Raccoons are vicious and no dog stands a chance,” he said.”
