Actress Kate Madison, a fan of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, spent six years and her entire life savings creating a prequel to the films.
Miss Madison, 31, spent £25,000 on the film, Born of Hope, which has already been watched by more than half a million people on YouTube.
The story was inspired by just a couple of paragraphs written by JRR Tolkein in the appendices of The Lord of The Rings.
"The film has gone down really well with the fans and some say it is even better than the Peter Jackson movies which is amazing," she said. "They have all been very supportive and would love us to make more films.
"We are all really pleased with the results and feel it can sit proudly alongside the trilogy."

She’s nuts, but she apparently did a pretty good job
She’s my kind of nut.:)
Created a prequel? Um, would that not be The Hobbit?
If she gets a movie deal acting or producing later, maybe not so crazy LOL. One thing that’s been proven time and time again, geeks have money and are willing to spend it on most anything geeky. Speaking as a geek myself of course!
It’s an outstanding short movie.

lot of time ‘tween the two stories, and Gollum was on the move
Interesting. Will have to look for it.
Ellendra - thought you might enjoy this one.
Ping for later.
Need to check this out later.
I hadn’t heard about this - thanks for the heads up!
It is rather good.
‘The Hunt for Gollum’ is out there to watch too.
Ping for later
Fan Fiction typically does not do well, and is usually frowned upon...............
I just checked out the website for this film. It’s not about Hobbits. It’s about Arathorn and Gilraen, Aragorn’s parents, and the Dunedain. It looks interesting. I’m going to have to watch this.
wan’t there a cartoon movie of The Hobbit that was produced back in the late 70’s. I recall it being a very good story about the adventures of Bilbo the uncle in the fellowship of the ring.
Bump for later.
Thanks for the post and a PING to Sarge!
