FWIW, in 1983 "settled scientists" laughed at Drs. Marshall & Warren (deniers) when they argued that the prevailing thought about gastric ulcers was wrong. Fast forward to 2005, when the two shared the Nobel Prize in Medicine for their work.

Acidophilus works. I’ve taken acidophilus capsules for the past 3 years. I was suffering from various GI problems for years. Acidophilus has been almost a miracle cure for me.

I took a prescription with high amounts of bismuth [pepto-bismol] for H. pylori, which is the bacteria that produces ulcers. Bismuth is one of the few things that works against H. pylori.

It didn’t help the gastritis, however. Neither did the $4/daily prescription of Aciphex the doctor tried.

After 4 years of suffering from the gastritis, I tried herbals based on an old Chinese homeopathic remedy.

I took 2 capsules of ginger root, 2 of licorice root, 2 of fennel seeds, and 1 of clove morning, mid-day, evening for two days. Then reduced the amount to 1 capsule of each herbal twice a day for about 3 days. That did more in 5 days to relieve the gastritis than the high-dollar prescriptions the doctors had me on.

Now, whenever the gastritis flairs up, I take 1 capsule of each twice a day for 2-3 days, and it settles the gastritis.

In other words, fresh, live culture yogurt is good for you. My great grandmother knew that.
