WRKO 680 Boston is apparently joining WABC New York and KABC Los Angeles in dropping Coast to Coast from its lineup, though apparently for a different reason. The NYC and LA stations are picking up the new Doug McIntyre show from Citadel while WRKO will be re-running Howie Carr from 1-5 am
And this latter case in Boston probably has to do with the fact that Clear Channel is launching a talk station in April on AM 1200, WXKS. Premiere radio syndicates Coast To Coast, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity--and Rush Limbaugh. No doubt Coast to Coast is heading there.
Premiere/Clear Channel supposedly has a contract with WRKO to run Rush till 2012 but who knows, that could end.
Howie Carr fans, you now have a second chance to catch him apparently (I think they did this before, re-running Howie in the wee wee hours)
From WRKO's schedule page:
Tuesday, February 9 12:00AM Jerry Doyle 1:00AM Howie Carr 5:00AM Wall Street Journal This Morning
“Premiere radio syndicates Coast To Coast, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity—and Rush Limbaugh.”
Hahahahaha...elections have consequences...thanks Scott Brown!
Howie Carr list ping. The Fried Clam Man is now also heard 1-5 am on WRKO (only on RKO, not on his other affiliates)
Re-runs of previous day’s show.
They did this several years ago too
Entercom Happens.
That reminds me! I still have 2 Howie podcasts to listen to.
WRKO fans, Reese Hopkins finally gets his day in court next Wednesday, February 17th. He turned down a plea bargain that would have gotten him released immediately as a felon and Sex Offender but turned it down. In retaliation, Asst. DA Rachel Ferrari sent him to the Gang Unit at Riker’s Island.
Premiere is thriving with these hosts while Air America is off the air (despite AAR’s Jon Sinton telling the Boston Globe on 3/31/05, “in five years we’ll be on 600 stations”
just like Rush...)
Don’t be too surprised if the libs try to knock down the cap on ownership. Clear Channel owns well over 1,000 stations I think, including more than a few that run conservative talk. Wouldn’t they like to limit ownership? (Key word: “Diversity”)
Even if he does get free I think he said he prob won’t do radio again but who knows. He says he has evidence he wasn’t in the state at the time of the alleged incident...
It was a weird co-incidence that right around the same time WRKO dumped Hopkins for salary cutbacks (replaced with Laura Ingraham, who’d been on WTKK before being edged out by other hosts), along came the arrest...
All Howie all the time, enough already!
Even if Rush stays at RKO till 2012, it’s in late 2012 that Howie’s contract is up. Maybe he can go to another station...
Who knows, some people who can’t hear Howie due to not being able to listen while at work, can hear him in re-runs overnights (think of the late shift workers too). That’s a key word: WORK. A lot of Howie listeners have jobs and aren’t layabouts on welfare, though he does have one guy in Hartford I think who’s a welfare layabout moonbat and calls up Howie to give him grief.
HC: “We can’t get together and have a big rally like the anti war people have done; we have other things to do like
GO TO WORK!”
WABC in New York dropped Coast to Coast, as well, and replaced it with Tom McIntyre or some such.
Coast to Coast was weird.
Doug McIntyre, who I think used to be based out of LA and has done some work at KABC before (think I heard him in for Hannity at some point?) Someone on FR ran a thread saying that they were disappointed that Coast to Coast was dropped in favor of the “RINO” McIntyre
A quick look at McIntyre’s entry on Wikipedia says that he used to do a KABC show called Red Eye Radio and that he was looking at the possibility of doing a similar show. Excerpt: “McIntyre identifies himself as a Republican, though his social views are less conservative than many of his talk radio colleagues (he supports gay marriage and legalizing marijuana, for example). “
Thanks for clearing that up!
I’ve listened to McIntyre, but I was still half asleep.
Ferrari already said she can’t win the case. The bank records, his work record from Power 93. Affidavits from landlords and real estate brokers in NYC and CT. All exonerate him. I’m amazed the case wasn’t thrown out. But in NYC all you need is a accusation. Also, the charge came after he started appearing on CNN on a regular basis. We think the girl and her mother thought he had money. He’s going back on the air if I have to drag him from station to station.
Nothing was discussed on Coast to Coast that couldn’t be solved by four meddling kids and a Great Dane in a van.
Betcha Art Bell's agent is kicking back with a smile and a very fine cigar while Premiere's offers keep growing ... and growing ... for Art to return full-time.
if you scan the AM band in the wee hours it is difficult to pick-up any program BUT Coast-to-Coast. It is probably past it’s saturation point.
There is also Phil Hendrie and his characters, etc. But add McIntyre (and Carr reruns in Boston) to the mix.
Citadel decided to stake out the 10 pm-1 am slot (ET) with a live show hosted by Curtis Sliwa but they eventually let Sliwa’s contract expire and replaced him with John Batchelor.
Now Citadel is going after the 1-5 am slot.
wmal has scaled it back during the week. It must be a money issue because C2C was the highest rated show for its slot.
