Looking for a serious recommendation or two --

details:

Our department is 'graphics challenged' when it comes to producing quality, professional-looking charts out of MS Excel (R).

I am seeking FReeper advice on what plugins or packages out there are RECOMMENDED to take what comes out of Excel and turn those graphics into sharp, professional graphics for the web, Word and PowerPoint.

What do you guys recommend?

CAVEAT: not sure we have a staffer who will take the time to employ Photoshop for real.

Learning Photoshop can be a carreer in itself

I taught my daughters - I joke that they can put themselves through college

Have you considered subbing it out ?

Inkscape is free and uses SVG file format. The beauty of SVG files are that they are mathematical creations and can be scaled to any size without loss of resolution. I use Gimp myself which is also free but Inkscape is better for graphs and commercial graphics.

Forget excel and get a professional graphing product such as SigmaPlot 11 from Systat.

Here is the link: http://www.sigmaplot.com/products/sigmaplot/sigmaplot-details.php

It also does a wide variety of statistical analysis. Very easy interface. I’ve been using this product for about 20 years and it does 99% of what I need.
