Not only that, but Nat could tickle the ivories with the best of ‘em.
my favorites: Dean Martin, Bobby Darin, Davie Bowie and Jackie Wilson...
Yep - his early trios with him on piano were some of his best music. btw, Elvis Costello’s wife does a nice cover of Nat’s early trio songs - easily her best album.
In the 1950's I didn't hear much rock and roll, either. In our home, we usually kept our Zenith radios--one a portable, and another a floor model--tuned to KFI, at 640 kcs, which mostly featured variety programming and pop standards, although an occasional rocker such as Bill Haley's "Rock Around the Clock" would sometimes be heard. KFI is now a talk station, and the Southern Californiaq home of Rush Limbaugh.
My favorite Al Stewart opus is “Roads to Moscow.”
The Christmas airplane (attempted)bomber. From what I’ve been reading, he’s singning like a canary.
All true...have you heard Paul Rishell and Annie Raines? She tries to sing (and she isn’t too good) but she plays the harp behind him and they do some reall ass kicking Delta Blues...this is the only white guy doing blues that would fool anyone...and I mean anyone...and his playing is just beyond belief...if you haven’t heard him, let me recommend him for one of your shows...couple of albums, one electric (which was average) but the acoustic stuuf is great...especially when he gets out his old National Steel...I don’t know if their stuff got out of Boston much...
Talk about great bands that might have been...have you heard the Ronnie Earl/Jerry Portnoy Broadcasters stuff? Or Ronnie and Sugar Ray Norcia, for that matter...great stuff...before Ronnie decided to be a Jazzman at Berkely...
Now that you mentioned it Bill Haley and Rock around the Clock was the first pop song that I liked...:O)
Yeah, but the Hot Nuts Panty Bomber is singing like a canary according to Bammy and his merry band of liars...I don’t think I have seen anything that has actually proven that to be true (like arrests or even better, body count)...
