In the 1950's I didn't hear much rock and roll, either. In our home, we usually kept our Zenith radios--one a portable, and another a floor model--tuned to KFI, at 640 kcs, which mostly featured variety programming and pop standards, although an occasional rocker such as Bill Haley's "Rock Around the Clock" would sometimes be heard. KFI is now a talk station, and the Southern Californiaq home of Rush Limbaugh.
Now that you mentioned it Bill Haley and Rock around the Clock was the first pop song that I liked...:O)
