The time spent finding his phone, calling 911, and speaking with the operator would have been better spent getting out of the truck.
I heard the 911 call on the news and the guy sounded cool, calm and collected.
The operator told him to sit tight and not hang up, but that's all as far I know.
I would have at least suggested trying to open the doors or windows.

911 operators, in my experience, are not very smart and rely on a template to guide their actions/advice.

In my area, I get the strong feeling that 911 operations are merely a make-work program designed to keep ghetto people from being completely idle.
