WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (AP) -- A northeastern Pennsylvania woman who marketed "gothic kittens" with ear and neck piercings over the Internet has been convicted of animal cruelty. A Luzerne County jury on Wednesday convicted 35-year-old dog groomer Holly Crawford of one misdemeanor count and one summary count of animal cruelty, but acquitted her on two separate counts. She will be sentenced March 31.

Interesting... if they were Dobermanns or boxers instead, she could have cut their ears and docked their tails and it would have been okay. Funny what we will and won’t tolerate.

That is what I just thought. Our Jack Russell has docked ears and tail.

Hell my little nieces and my daughter had pierced ears early on.

Torturing kittens for fun and profit.

I can see the neck piercing causing a fuss (simply too many blood vessels to mess with), but ear piercings are stirring emotion? Really people? No one’s ever seen a dog with a clipped tail or ears? That’s done for cosmetic purposes as well.

Sorry, I don’t believe in pick and choose when it comes to acceptable forms of cosmetic mutilation. All in, or all out. Make up your minds.

But nobody even notices all of the crap hanging off the faces and bodies of the kids in school?

Nobody’s said it yet?
Ok, you’ve left me no choice.
One word:
“Circumcision”.

The ladies may now continue to defend the kittens. 8-P

Actually, more and more breeders are moving away from docking and ear cropping. The problem is the AKC, which does not recognize undocked/cropped breeds in the show ring. Many of these breeds were originally docked/cropped so they wouldn't be confused with other breeds, as well as for human specific needs (Dobie's ears that stand so their hearing is better, which is silly).

Here's my thing on that. If God wanted a Dobie's ears to stand tall, He would have made them that way.

The original story did say that she cut off some of the cat’s tails which they use for balance when jumping.

When I was raising goats, at at about 3 days old, each ear was pierced with a large “tagger” and every one had a different number or color tag depending on the year they were born....most of them didn’t even feel it as there was no protest from the animal...farmers give there cattle numbers in the ears also so you can tell one from another when medicating them....Guess we are all just sadist that like to see animals suffer......NOT. Docked tails on dogs, cut ears on dogs so that they stay a certain way....It just sounds bad to some that are not reality based.. I would never piece a cats ear, but have done about 80 goats and 1 ewe. Send me to jail......

"When I was raising goats...."

There is a difference between a utilitarian function and aesthetics.
Tagging an animal for identification is different than driving spikes into one just because you think it looks cool.
I think it's great that you used to farm - so you must understand I know that's different from "Gothing-out" kittens, and so do you.

Good Lord! Please spare us the thinly-veiled cats-and-humans-are-equal gambit.

I will worry about chicks piercing cats' ears when abortion has been ended. Until then, I don't give a rat's @ss about a bunch of dumb animals.

Excuse me, what? You can pierce your 1-year old’s ears, but can’t pierce your kitten’s?

"....I don't give a rat's @ss about a bunch of dumb animals."

I am sorry that your heart is hardened thus.
People who abuse animals will almost surely abuse humans, too, (not implying that you do - I said most, not all).
It has to do with a hardening of the heart, becoming desensitized to suffereing.
God calls us to be good stewards with what He has provided us.

It is possible to be concerned about two things at once.

I'm not cruel to animals, they just don't register as anything but property and/or objects to me. They possess no human qualities to any degree.

The argument that animal abuse leads to human abuse makes for great debate, but the fact is that Psalmy equated piercing kitten ears with a willingness to perform abortions. Psalmy is flat out wrong.

But I guees I'm just too stupid to realize the best way to prevent abortions is to protect kittens.

Got it! .. and I thought the libs were nuts....
