Ow!
On the upside, the Lab then swam out and pulled him to shore.
On the downside, his companions gutted him and tied him across the hood of his car.

No. 2 for DUCKS? Lord have mercy, there wouldn't be anything left but the drumsticks and wings . . . unless he (1) was really hunting Canadas; (2) expected not to be able to call the ducks in very close; (3) was going for a head shot every time.
Don't put it down if it's loaded, folks. Open the action.

Okay, so the question now is: “Was the dog trained well enough to retrieve him?”

If only this could happen to Ed Schultz, justice would be served.

Obviously the dog did not take his hunter safety training course.....I know he is a good dog but incidents like this really give good labs a bad name....

I agree. The Rem 870 is the standard here for HRC hunting tests . . . and you don’t put that thing down with a shell in it. They’re real bugs about gun safety even though we’re only shooting primers or poppers. Maybe some of it will rub off when everybody heads for the field.

Reporters never get anything right (at least not when I've had private information about a news story).
And they go so far as to identify the perp as a "black female Labrador Retriever" and don't give her name? Maybe it was a description of the suspect?
I have a black female Labrador Retriever (her name is Ruby), and I can see her doing something like this. That dog cannot sit still (at least, only with great difficulty and when you give her the stink eye). She's my ADHD poster child. But she is absolute death on ducks and she handles like a dream.

Always keep your muzzle pointed in a safe direction.
That said, a “safe” firearm is one with a mag/tube whatever out, action locked open, safety on, unloaded, preferably with a chamber flag in, firearm grounded with no one touching it.
So, how many safety rules to he have to break to get shot?

Late in the season but I had not seen one of these stories yet.
