At some point, someone will make a major theoretical breakthrough that will explain the mysterious wave-particle duality of electromagnetic radiation and radically change the understanding of energy, matter, space, time and gravity.
I expect that this theory will be resisted by the establishment much more fiercely than were Einstein’s relativity theories or quantum mechanics theory, because it will call into question the absoluteness of the fixed time scales laid down by Hawking and others based on a maximum speed “c” of light.
