Someone please tell me why this is....
Every job application out there askes me if I'm Hispanic or Latino! Why not Black? ...or non-White?
Interesting thread overhere.
Do either of you ever check the “Other” box — for Sa’ami ancestry?
Sa’amis, however, only have minority status in Scandinavian countries, right? Surely they have no status here in America??
For “Race”, I usually specify “Other” and write in some variant of “Race for the Cure”, “10K”, or “Three-Legged”. My wife specifies “Scandia-American”.
I think so.
Although, I can’t see the picture you posted behind the firewall here at work.
Gene analysis revealed that for the most part the other humans have been isolated from the Sa'ami gene pool for most of the last 15,000 years.
There's another group in Eastasia with a similar problem ~ the Chinese were isolated from their gene pool for most of 15,000 years. However, they have a "marker gene" that's a real blast ~ most all of them have 5roots on their upper molars. About 40% of modern Japanese have the marker. 100% of the ancient Jomon, and modern Ainu, and modern descendants of most Samurai have that marker. There are groups in North Central China with the same teeth.
There are other differences that go along with the teeth including a decided adaptation to exceedingly cold conditions.
The Eskimo are not part of this group but another one.
I doubt the US government is ever going to recognize racial differences which are perceptible only at the genetic level ~ but they might. There are some very real biological differences between the Sa'ami and others, mostly having to do with living in a cold climate and eating animals high in iron.
Oh, yeah, they are not well adapted to eating grain or vegetables ~ definitely well advanced toward a purely carnivorous lifestyle. If we could get an organized campaign going we might be able to convince Congress to give us an exception to consume seal meat.
The dark haired, dark skinned Hispanic types came from the Middle East and Africa within historic times.
The MINGO served as the great resource in the background for the Confederation IRIQUOIS who had created a warrior elite and advanced form of government and laws.
For the most part if you lived out among the broad masses of MINGO and grew up over 6 feet tall you'd probably get recruited whether you wanted to be or not.
Life was tough in the good old days!
The Iroquois have a large percentage of the X-factor, a genetic sequence found only in the Sa'ami and Berber people. The Cherokee also have a large percentage of the X-factor, as do the Chippewa/Ojibwa (who actually have the most). You find individuals of nearly pure Indian ancestry in these tribes who look more or less "white". It is believed that the ancestors of these people came directly from Western Europe about 15,000 years ago ~ maybe even before that.
So, yes, your great great grandmother, an Iroquois Indian, could look white. Because of Iroquois adoption practices she could have actually had white ancestors. On the other hand lots of Iroquois can pass for Chinese ~ rather large Chinese, but Chinese nonetheless.
American Indians are, to a greater degree than has hitherto been appreciated, a mixed bag of all the races on Earth ~ as are we all!
The genes don't lie.
Other is always good.
Nobody has ever asked what I meant by it.
I think they were afraid to ask.

LOL. Having been (uggh - not my fav job) a recruiter for several years for a multi billion dollar organization, you read the response from the recruiters entirely incorrectly.
The recruiter then has to put his/her best guess on your application (if the company does significant federal business), so you think you’re messing with them, and they’re thinking “great, another butthead who won’t check the frikkin box on the app”. 9 times out of 10 it’s a black person doing so, out of fear that being black is a detriment to being hired. And the remaining 10 percent were white guys who thought they were making a real statement.
Nah. Because of my yDNA (R1b) I look like just another EVIL White guy, albeit a real handsome one.
Indian great-grandmother who passed as white ... I wondered about DH’s great grandmother, too. When I first saw their photo I asked what tribe she was from. But no one knows for sure.
People in Spain say they are white. If you’re ancestors came from Spain, you’re white. The rest is confusing.
I think they always expect a mestizo.
I lived in California for the first 16 years of my life. My neighbor was an awesome guy. Served in the US Military for almost 20 years. His name was Paul C Ventura. He became good friends with my dad and was a very trusting neighbor he did a lot for others.
He moved back home to Tennessee. He returned to California and talked with me and my dad about how incredibly racist the part of town he moved to. I dont quite remember where but when he applied at US Military mechanic job, the application asked if he was latino/hispanic or american or whatever, he decided to go ahead and put Latino since his Grandmother was straight up Mexican but his mother and father were alot more American.
He said he laughed when he was rejected from the position over the phone and email so he decided to go talk to the hiring manager and he apologized and explained he was expecting a smaller brown person with little to no English.
Needless to say, he still puts down Hispanic and found a good job in El Paso, TX working at a Military Base
Great guy
Is there enough room on the application to write in a fine-point pen:
“I am every bit as Latino, as Elizabeth Warren is Native American”
Might show your next employer, you understand both honesty, and diplomacy. I’d hire you.
