Jean Simmons, a radiant British actress who as a teenager appeared opposite Laurence Olivier in "Hamlet" and emerged a star whose career flourished in the 1950s and 1960s in such films as "Guys and Dolls, "Elmer Gantry" and "Spartacus," has died. She was 80.

Simmons, who won an Emmy Award for her role in the 1980s miniseries "The Thorn Birds," died Friday evening at her home in Santa Monica, said Judy Page, her agent. She had lung cancer.

It is a loss. We’re losing good ones and they aren’t being replaced with anyone of value.

“Cheaper by the Dozen” was a good one, too.

Cheaper by the Dozen was a good one, too. One of my favorites. I just found it on Amazon. I want the Canterville Ghost with Charles Laughton too. And Mr Peabody and the Mermaid.

Yeah, that was great. It reminded me of John Wayne is Red River when they turned the Bull and Cow loose the kid said they will wander away. John said, “Where ever they go, they will be on my land”.

Funny story I read about Jean Simmons. She said she was used to getting fan mail meant for Gene Simmons. They would write her saying “I like it when you spit blood”
She took it in stride and was a class act.

While I loved Ava Gardner, I say Gene Tierney was the most beautiful.

That was a photo related to the Disney US release of Muyazaki’s Howl’s Moving Castle. Lassiter at Pixar was able to cast Lauren Bacall and Simmons to do voice work.

I’ve always thought Burl Ives stole that film. Great flick.

    I am a
dj. I met my wife and a club that was screening Hamlet, don't ask. Anyway, Jean Simmons will always hold that place in my memory.
