In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
Augean stable \aw-JEE-un-STAY-bul\ noun
a condition or place marked by great accumulation of filth or corruption
Example sentence:
The presidency of Ulysses S. Grant was marred by his refusal to clean out the Augean stables of his own administration
Did you know?
"Augean stable" most often appears in the phrase "clean the Augean stable," which usually means "clear away corruption" or "perform a large and unpleasant task that has long called for attention." Augeas, the mythical king of Elis, kept great stables that held 3,000 oxen and had not been cleaned for thirty years -- until Hercules was assigned the job. Hercules accomplished this task by causing two rivers to run through the stables. The word "Augean" is sometimes used by itself, too -- it has come to mean "extremely difficult and usually distasteful." We can refer to "Augean tasks," "Augean labor," or even "Augean clutter."
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

ha, you said crack.
made me laugh instead of just MOONING around... ; )
I agree - Scott Brown isn’t gloating like I am, he’s playing it very humble and saying “let’s get to work”.....I, on the other hand, have been doing the nerdy conservative happy dance all last evening and this morning...
i have privately gloated to people, but am not happy dancing publicly.
The grand-girls and their mom just left. What fun. We went to Kohl’s and they were dressed very nice in pants, shirts and fleece jackets. As soon as Maya, the two year old, spotted the girlie nightgowns with the Disney princesses she stripped to her pull up diaper and socks and begged to put one on. OMGosh......she put on the new princess nightie and proudly strolled the aisles of the store. There was no getting her back in real clothes. Her mom had to tear the tag off the nightie and hand it to the clerk to ring it out. Maya was an angel.....so long as we gave in to the nightie in the store. LOL Again, no camera! I will not go out with the girls without a camera ever again! This is the second time she has had a nightie on for a shopping trip.
After getting to the car her four year old sister, Ava, had to strip and put her nightie on as well. OMG...they came with a headband and slippers, too. So precious!
Butt, Butt....!
I cannot find the cartoon of the house falling on Pelosi last night!
Rush is having a gloat day.
He just played “Happy Feet”.
Nothing left to do but see the Dems tear eachother apart. I love watching that sweet sweet blue on blue action
Where’s Lindsey? Or is it Lindsay? You know who I mean, the soft-spoken fake Republican from South Carolina.
Me too. I have been smiling since last night, watching the returns come in and enjoying the victory for America. I am happy that the tide is turning, and it only took a year of the obamanation. Woo-hoo!
isn’t it great, also, that it happened RIGHT at the 1 year anniversary of his presidency? always talk of legacies and achievements at that juncture and well, here we have it.... ROR!
Karma. It’s a beautiful thing sometimes.
kharma, dharma and samsara! xsfrosh’s world history midterm was today i am up on those terms!
And all I needed to know about karma was learned by watching My Name is Earl. ROR!
Sounds more like Eastern religions than World History. What ever happened to the 100 Years War and the Defenestration of Prague?
well not watching tv much i guess i need textbooks to learn stuff! The Analects, the Veda, names of things i have no clue how to pronounce. i have no idea how she will do on the exam, the breadth of info they cover is mindboggling.
they start with hominids and Catal huyuk and work their way up. i NEVER learned any world history of the Far East in school, this crap is totally NEWS TO ME. the Indus Valley civilization, Osiris and Isis, Daoism, Legalism, Buddhism, Hinduism, compare and contrast. Serious BS! They have just gotten up to the Greeks in time for the midterm. So now legit history begins for the next semester.
most of our population is a month away from starvation when you look at the food pipeline.
