Why we need to consider annexing Haiti:

Long ago, two separate peoples in the Western Hemisphere found themselves under the boot of oppression. The people of America and the people of a little island in the Caribbean called Hispaniola (later to be split in half and renamed Haiti and the Dominican Republic) both suffered from the usual sort of oppression colonial powers offered up; taxation without representation, violent suppression of rights, and the rape and pillage of natural resources and labor.

You want the U.S. to take on that huge liability simply so the Chinese can’t have it (a silly premise)? Haiti would have been a huge drain on our resources BEFORE the quake. They have nothing that would be an asset to the United States. NOTHING.

The US occupied Haiti from 1915 to 1934. We could do it again, and if the right people were in charge could sow the seeds for real development. But the right people are not in power and the ones who are would just F* it up worse than it is now.

I've heard this idea floated over the last few days and frankly, I'm not sure it's a good one. As it is now, the United States pours a lot of our tax dollars down that black hole called Haiti...now with this disaster, Obama has pledged something like another hundred million. If I thought this nation would actually benefit from investing in Haiti, I might go for it. Instead, what we will create is yet another dependent welfare state, something this country can do without.

The problems in Haiti are of the Haitian people's own making. This is a beautiful part of the world, a country that could develop tourism and so many other related industries, creating jobs for its people and improving the quality of life. Instead, this country would rather sit back, cry about its plight in life, and stick its hand out to America and other countries for subsistence. Haiti has a corrupt socialist government. Obviously, that government isn't working; so why stick with it?

Fact is, the US already has its own problems. Annexing Haiti will just add to them. There is no upside for us.

Absolutely not! The “successful USA” was built on LEGAL immigration from a mix of advanced and not so advance cultures and countries. The bad old evil white Europeans may have dominated more than some would like but the USA once was a beacon of liberty to the entire world. We were the destination of choice for most of the citizens of the world attempting to get away from oppressive governments.

Thanks to Ted the woman killer Kennedy, the USA has focused on immigration from cultures and countries that been historical failures.

You cannot build a great country with people who only know how to extend their hand for a hand out.

We need to tighten our immigration policies to attract Producers, Skilled, strong work ethic people not millions of 3rd world types.

Go ahead call me racist but HISTORY has proven not all people & cultures ARE equal. They may be created equal but that is where it ends.

I don't know if it's been mentioned before, but it appears that Haiti is mostly populated by 'dark skinned blacks'.

Which makes me wonder if that's why Obama doesn't have any real interest in their welfare.
