We haven't received our census questionnaire yet. But, my poor mother did. She lives in another state. She old and become rather frail and it takes her time to do things. When I spoke to her today, she said she spent all day filling it out. I told her, I know for a fact that all of those questions are illegal for them to ask except how many individuals live in your house. Is there any other questions that we are suppose to answer but, that one?
I did tell her that she only had to tell how many people lived in the house. She’d already filled it in and mailed it out.
That’s what I thought, I just couldn’t remember from last time. I don’t mind telling them that. I just think our government has become far to noise for our good.
LOL...the new Amish order..too cute!!!
Amish and cell phones, I would have never thought. They must be more modern then I remember them. My grandparents lived in Virgina, lots of Amish there. I remember the black horse and buggies. I remember we went to one of there homes to buy rugs that they had woven. That was probably back in the early 60’s. I think my mother still has a couple of those rugs.
Thanks!!
When I get my form, only name and number of people in the house will be answered. Everything else will be marked “NOYFB”.
Holmes County Ohio has the largest Amish population in the world. The 2 lane highways in Holmes County have an extra wide paved berm for the buggies - we call them buggy lanes.
The other large Amish community in Ohio is in Geauga County, east of Cleveland.
Any business that has “Amish” in the name is NOT Amish.
The Amish in Pennsylvania have been using cell phones for some time. I guess since there are no wires, they are okay. Most Amish will ride in cars (not their own), though some “Old-Order” Amish will not - not so many of those around anymore.
Many Amish have diesel generators to provide their own electricity. They will also have an array of batteries to store power for minimal electricity requirements.
Many have power lawn mowers, some may even have tractors, though it is common to see them working in the fields with horse-drawn plows, hay bailers, wagons, etc.
Many Amish are quite wealthy.
Many are also well educated. I know naturopaths, master herbalists, iridologists etc among the Amish.
In some families, they allow the young men to have a car, so wild oats, and then decide whether to stay in the Amish community and Amish way of life.
THIS DESERVES A WHOLE NEW THREAD.
This lady received a fundraising piece of crap from the Republican party.
Michael Steele’s name is all over it. And this is a disgraceful attempt to con people in a census year by calling this Republican solicitation a “2010 CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT CENSUS.”

This is about to explode in the GOP faces.
I just wish I was living closer to my mother. She is just getting to that stage in life where she is really vulnerable. If this is from the GOP, shame on them.
Yes. This came from Michael Steele. I faxed it to my congresscritter, who is a Republican. She looked into it and was ashamed to say the higher ups were up to this. She said she had already tried to stop it but is powerless against the RINO types.
You can call 202/863-8747 and voice your disgust.
This is why the republicans lost, the mentality is all wrong. And of all things, my mother is a life long democrat, never ever has she voted republican.
At least it has a SASE, so I think I'll fill it out. Let them know what I think of them, and send it in.
I did, but it didn’t occur to me to do what you said.
I’d love to write down that I’m Scots-Irish-American. The stupid ACORN people probably have no clue that a huge portion of Americans are just that!
