Bell solved this problem a long time ago by building their helmets around a glass hemisphere.
The shattering glass absorbs impact.
The problem is, if you drop the helmet, you need to get a new one.
I bet it works a lot better than this thing, though.

The title is WRONG. This helmet is NOT an airbag, it is a cooling/stabilization device to prevent brain injury from overheating.
It looks like it will work as well as any other helmet, then cool the brain after impact.
The headline writer needs to actually read the literature.
