Today's buzz on Twitter about the Rev. Pat Robertson seemed like a cruel hoax against the man who blamed America's sins for the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001 and Hurricane Katrina.
But no. Robertson did indeed strike again today during his show "The 700 Club" on the Christian Broadcasting Network. Calling for donations to CBN's disaster relief fund, he blamed Tuesday's 7.3 magnitude earthquake on the Haitians' "pact with the devil" two centuries ago while seeking liberation from the French. Take a look at the video. So, why did so many missionaries, clergy and seminarians die on Tuesday? The Seeker is waiting on a call back from Rev. Robertson to find out.
I did reach the Rev. Erwin Lutzer, pastor of The Moody Church in Chicago. He appeared on Robertson's show more than a decade ago to promote his book "One Minute After You Die." Lutzer said not all evangelical Christians agree with Robertson.
"While it's true that all natural disasters reflect the fact that the earth is fallen as a result of sin, it is disingenuous for anyone to assume that one area of the world is being judged more harshly than another, because of natural disasters," he said. "For example it would be wrong for us to conclude that New Orleans was a city that was made more sinful than Las Vegas because one was victimized by a natural disaster and the other wasnt."
Some say Robertson's comments appeal to a fan base that believes he hears God's voice and knows the divine mind. Lutzer said not all evangelical Christians believe that to be true. Many, like himself, stick to what the Bible says about God's mercy and forgiveness.....

And, as it turns out, Haiti gained its liberation only to fall into societal and economic collapse. They asked for French businessmen and plantation managers to come back.
That, in fact, turned out to be a Faustian bargain.
That particular deal didn't play out all that well. The French stayed and the Haitians stayed poor!
And..., I don't see this nation (the USA) repenting of its sins as a nation, like we see in what Abraham Lincoln said and understood back in 1863. He understood what God did with nations.
I find that here on Free Republic, many don't believe that God deals with nations like this (as we see from what Abraham Lincoln said and understood). Many don't believe there is any judgment from God coming upon this nation...
Well, we'll see, as we have already seen from the judgment we've already received in the form of President Obama...
Whereas the Senate of the United States, devoutly recognizing the supreme authority and just government of Almighty God in all the affairs of men and of nations, has by a resolution requested the President to designate and set apart a day for national prayer and humiliation; and
Whereas it is the duty of nations as well as of men to own their dependence upon the overruling power of God, to confess their sins and transgressions in humble sorrow, yet with assured hope that genuine repentance will lead to mercy and pardon, and to recognize the sublime truth, announced in the Holy Scriptures and proven by all history, that those nations only are blessed whose God is the Lord;
And, insomuch as we know that by His divine law nations, like individuals, are subjected to punishments and chastisements in this world, may we not justly fear that the awful calamity of civil war which now desolates the land may be but a punishment inflicted upon us for our presumptuous sins, to the needful end of our national reformation as a whole people? We have been the recipients of the choicest bounties of Heaven; we have been preserved these many years in peace and prosperity; we have grown in numbers, wealth, and power as no other nation has ever grown. But we have forgotten God. We have forgotten the gracious hand which preserved us in peace and multiplied and enriched and strengthened us, and we have vainly imagined, in the deceitfulness of our hearts, that all these blessings were produced by some superior wisdom and virtue of our own. Intoxicated with unbroken success, we have become too self-sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming and preserving grace, too proud to pray to the God that made us.
It behooves us, then, to humble ourselves before the offended Power. to confess our national sins, and to pray for clemency and forgiveness.
Now, therefore, in compliance with the request, and fully concurring in the views of the Senate, I do by this my proclamation designate and set apart Thursday, the 30th day of April, 1863, as a day of national humiliation, fasting, and prayer. And I do hereby request all the people to abstain on that day from their ordinary secular pursuits, and to unite at their several places of public worship and their respective homes in keeping the day holy to the Lord and devoted to the humble discharge of the religious duties proper to that solemn occasion.
All this being done in sincerity and truth, let us then rest humbly in the hope authorized by the divine teachings that the united cry of the nation will be heard on high and answered with blessings no less than the pardon of our national sins and the restoration of our now divided and suffering country to its former happy condition of unity and peace. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the United States to be affixed.
Done at the city of Washington, this 30th day of March, A. D. 1863, and of the Independence of the United States the eighty-seventh.
ABRAHAM LINCOLN.
By the President:
WILLIAM H. SEWARD, Secretary of State .
Psalms Chapter 2 1 Why do the nations rage, And the people plot a vain thing? 2 The kings of the earth set themselves, And the rulers take counsel together, Against the Lord and against His Anointed, saying, 3 "Let us break Their bonds in pieces And cast away Their cords from us." 4 He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; The Lord shall hold them in derision. 5 Then He shall speak to them in His wrath, And distress them in His deep displeasure: 6 "Yet I have set My King On My holy hill of Zion." 7 "I will declare the decree: The Lord has said to Me, 'You are My Son, Today I have begotten You. 8 Ask of Me, and I will give You The nations for Your inheritance, And the ends of the earth for Your possession. 9 You shall break them with a rod of iron; You shall dash them to pieces like a potter's vessel.' " 10 Now therefore, be wise, O kings; Be instructed, you judges of the earth. 11 Serve the Lord with fear, And rejoice with trembling. 12 Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, And you perish in the way, When His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him.
I saw this over at Brietbart and the comments are not surprising.
Christians understand what he meant...the world doesn’t.
VooDoo part of that pact?
And God is a righteous God and He deals out punishment to entire nations, as He did during Israel's day and continues to do up to this day. Even Abraham Lincoln knew this (as you can see in my post up above from what Lincoln said in 1863)...
I posted about the Messiah of Israel earlier, and post it here again...
At Christmas -- a lot of people think about a cute little baby Jesus or a very nice man who said nice things to people, was uplifting, and healed a bunch of people...
What people really need to remember is that there's this "big bad Jewish fellow" out there, who's showing up soon, sorta unexpected, and he's "looking for bear" and is gonna open up "the biggest can of whoop-ass" you've ever seen in your life, on a bunch of people here on earth. LOL...
However, many fail to understand -- but they will "understand" when the Messiah of Israel returns to this earth, sets His feet on the soil of this globe, and sets up the ruling authority -- the one-world government -- that He puts into place over all nations, including the United States.
He's the Messiah of Israel, that He is coming back to earth, to set up a one-world government, with His headquarters in Jerusalem, ruling over all the nations of the world, including the United States and will rule over all who are still alive (from who are living right now today) -- and that He will definitely scrap the Constitution of the United States and make Himself the supreme ruler over all that we do.
The "day of reckoning" is coming for all of those who are trying to take over the world and put it totally under their control in an evil one-world empire. And they do admit that they want a one-world government -- their government, not God's...
When the Messiah of Israel comes back to this earth to set up His one-world government and subject all the nations of the world to His authority and rule -- He'll be making real short work of any of those yahoos...
And you can be sure that He will be utterly destroying anything to do with any of these yahoos, since whatever they say and do is a total perversion of anything to do with the Messiah of Israel.
And for sure -- we all, in this world, need the Messiah of Israel back, here on earth -- to destroy this coming one-world government and to install His own one-world government in its place.
I'm looking forward to the coming Kingdom on earth and the one-world government that the Messiah of Israel will be setting up, after He destroys, by His own hand, the present and evil one-world government that we see forming right now.
Isaiah 9:6-7 For unto us a Child is born. Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace There will be no end, Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, To order it and establish it with judgment and justice From that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.
It’s looking like my trip to Haiti slated for next month is cancelled. I know there are a lot of Voodoo temples there and the culture of voodoo is steeped, to one degree or another, in the lives of the Christians there. But, I would not say that this earthquake IS God somehow judging or teaching a lesson. I would say it’s possible.
An interesting thing to throw into the mix is all the people who died during the black plague who contracted it by congregating in churches.
I didn’t know that the French stayed. I do know that a mulatto class (you know, people with light skins who didn’t speak a Negro dialect) fought for dominance with black leaders from the beginning.
>>It’s the U.S. who should be concerned about judgment from God, as the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is not going to be ignoring this, since this nation condones and encourages the parents to kill their own kids and we’ve racked up in excess of 50 million kids killed by their parents, thus far.<<
I think there is truth to this. There is a reason I use the tagline I do.
If you believe God punishes people, there are plenty of places on the globe that deserve his wrath more than Haiti.
Or it could just be the devil.
Yup. I look at it this way: If we all got what we deserved, we’d all be dead.
Does anybody use the search feature around here anymore?
Dear Pat Robertson,
God can do anything.
However you can neither read His mind nor divine His intentions.
Please apologize for pretending you can, kneel down and pray for the Haitians.
Thank you very much.
Now Robertson’s given the media something to talk about. He will be the topic of discussion for at least two days.
I was going to post, “Just shut up, Pat”. But you’ve done it a little more eloquently. Thank you.
“Shut up” is the operative concept, that’s for sure.
