I remember watching that movie at the Saturday matinee about 40 years ago.

He was obivioulsy a man that liked a LOT of fire in his women... but that came become dangerous, part of the attraction. oh, by the way, your lady handles a gun pretty good also.....:O)

Cagney's greatest performance, IMHO.He is great in that.
That's One, Two, Three (if anyone's wondering).

It showed a less secure Duke. As the pilot of a transport plane, he shows fear of not being found and of making the right decisions.
It was a good movie and highly recommend it.

True Grit
Ned Pepper: What's your intention? Do you think one on four is a dogfall?
Rooster Cogburn: I mean to kill you in one minute, Ned. Or see you hanged in Fort Smith at Judge Parker's convenience. Which’ll it be?
Ned Pepper: I call that bold talk for a one-eyed fat man.
Rooster Cogburn: Fill your hands, you son of a b**ch.
Only Oscar The Duke ever won.

Heh, I see this is a very old thread, but in case I didn’t comment back then I will do so now: ‘The Sons of Katie Elder’ has to be in there somewhere. Don’t ask me what to eliminate, but it has to be in there.

It’s one of those movies I’ve seen 20 times and if I turn on my TV right now and it’s in progress, I’m there until it’s over. (shrug)

I seldom watch movies more than once, but I've seen this one couple times

By the way, another of my favorite John Waybe movies is one that doesn't get mentioned very often, but I love it. John Wayne plays a college football coach, and does a terrific job with the role. I think it's actually one of his best performances:

A lot of people are unaware that Wayne had a cameo in The Greatest Story Ever Told, which I suppose is technically not a 'John Wayne' movie, but which has an IMDB score of 6.3 FWIW.
