Actually, I can hand load my.357 to perform in the same ballistic envelope as the 30-30 winchester range. The .45 colt as well can perform amazingly well at a maximum 100yards range. I have another couple of rifle chamberings to really reachout and touch. Here in Michigan the black bear is the biggest threat in the wild, and shots on whitetail over 150 yards are rare.

If you are pushing a 357/158 upwards of 2200 FPs from a carbine lever gun (30/30 pushes a 150 at the same...), PLEASE let em know what ranges you frequent so I can avoid the hand grenade....
Think it through, your commonality of ammo is a handicap-pick a fighting handgun caliber, and a fighting rifle caliber (plus maybe a 12 ga close in crowd gun), and stow a dozen mags worth of each, maybe a few hundred more in an ammo can, forget the thousands upon thousands that some suggest.
