Said another way, if the bat-boat crew believed that it was intentionally rammed when it tried to cross the bow of the Japanese ship, why didn’t they tell the truth when reporting the incident? First reports out had the bat-boat crew claiming that the bat-boat was DRIFTING and SUDDENLY RAMMED. They falsely attributed their own behavior (unprovoked aggression, approaching with attempt to ram or harass) to the Japanese ship. Not the behavior or demeanor of innocent people.
