**THE 2009-10 BCS National Championship Game Live Thread**

Posted on 01/07/2010 12:10:45 PM PST by GOP_Raider

Well, here it is, the final game of the 2009 college football season. For much of the bowl season, I've had to work, get my car fixed, and Google search any insignificant question and computer problem my grandparents call me about. (You would think with their age and guile they'd have the answers to various things readily available. You would think). So needless to say, this has kept me from my assigned college football commenting duties. For that I apologize, but tonight I will get the festivities going. So without further ado...

The BCS National Championship Game: Alabama vs. Texas (8:00 pm) From the moment this matchup was set, I've been pondering what the key to this game should be and ultimately what it will be. Could it be the Longhorn offensive line having a chance to contain the legendary Mt. Cody? How about the Tide secondary and what they'll have to do to contain Jordan Shipley? And let us not forget the mystery of chessboxing that could occur between Nick Saban and Mack Brown. But I keep hearing that the Tide are going to make mince meat of the Horns, and that kind of ignores recent history. What did we learn from the last time we saw Texas in a title game? We should have learned not to count them out, right? So keep this in mind before we coronate a team in a game like this. In my usual neutral third party kind of observational style though, that doesn't necessarily mean that the Tide aren't every bit as good as advertised. I happen to think so, for whatever that's truly worth.

What years did you attend Alabama?

Commie Cronkite doing the UT promotional ad. How fitting. LOL!!!

Yeah Blair, we're gonna have to have a little talk about that, aren't we? ;)

Yep. And with a little help from UT’s freshman QB and bad play calling.

...but if Ingram went out Alabama wouldn't fold up shop.

I'm not sure that Richardson isn't better...

This is not really a fair determination of which is the best team with the best player out due to an injury.

Why not?

The "best team" would have more depth than one player. The "best team" can overcome an injury in the game.

I recall how the Gators gave Brantley many snaps early in the season, and how he played when Tebow was out with his concussion. How has Texas prepared for the possibility of losing their QB? Have they done anything throughout the season to be ready for that?

I would. Football is a team game. I'd love to see Texas come back, but if Ingram went out Alabama wouldn't fold up shop.

Texas is now paying the price of keeping Colt McCoy in blowout games to run up statistics rather than letting the backup quarterbacks play and get experience.

I played HS ball in Texas and went to Tennessee. I still keep up with Texas HS ball...Lake Travis did well this year also. I see the younger McCoy a leader as is Colt. Gilbert needs some seasoning and he will be a contender but I do not think it will be tonight. Texas recruited some real good players this year and will continue to dominate the Big 12. As it is, the SEC is a bloodbath year to year.

Yep, as great as Tebow was, I think we wouldn’t be in bad shape at all with Brantley.

I have information from the Texas sideline that McCoy has a broken collarbone.

There is no game without the Texas QB.

If the situation was reversed, and it was Ingram hurt, it would be the opposite problem.

You can't take a star out without throwing the game, particularly a senior QB. It's a shame.

Btw, if the SEC was so great why did the Nittanies beat LSU? Didn't LSU come less than a td from beating Bama?

"Alabama band members?"

Alabama band used all American made percussion.
Texas used all Jap stuff.

That is why I was joking about the best player (Alabama's Dante Hightower) being out of the game...

Alabama will feel just fine. Colt McCoy doesn’t play defense, and neither do the Longhorn linebackers.
