Well, here it is, the final game of the 2009 college football season. For much of the bowl season, I've had to work, get my car fixed, and Google search any insignificant question and computer problem my grandparents call me about. (You would think with their age and guile they'd have the answers to various things readily available. You would think). So needless to say, this has kept me from my assigned college football commenting duties. For that I apologize, but tonight I will get the festivities going. So without further ado...
The BCS National Championship Game: Alabama vs. Texas (8:00 pm) From the moment this matchup was set, I've been pondering what the key to this game should be and ultimately what it will be. Could it be the Longhorn offensive line having a chance to contain the legendary Mt. Cody? How about the Tide secondary and what they'll have to do to contain Jordan Shipley? And let us not forget the mystery of chessboxing that could occur between Nick Saban and Mack Brown. But I keep hearing that the Tide are going to make mince meat of the Horns, and that kind of ignores recent history. What did we learn from the last time we saw Texas in a title game? We should have learned not to count them out, right? So keep this in mind before we coronate a team in a game like this. In my usual neutral third party kind of observational style though, that doesn't necessarily mean that the Tide aren't every bit as good as advertised. I happen to think so, for whatever that's truly worth.
Shades of Jack Squirek against the Redskins in that Super Bowl. Dumb move by Texas.
Holy gosh ‘a mighty Joe Friday, that could be the dagger here.
Well, I have some work duties to perform and I shall return for the 2nd half.
48 to 9
I had a bad feeling when UT was not kneeing it. STUPID call playing with a freshman QB.
Oh I think Bama will feel just peachy. They already won the real Championship Game, the SEC Title Game.
Now your the preditor, and your right.
U G L Y game.
Texas coach: "We're gonna have to make some adjustments". DAHH.
Gilbert was an excellent HS QB but he has just been thrown to the wolves.
Listen, this kid knows how to throw miracles....
Like you said, it could be we Horns are crying for a long time, or there could be magic. Probably both.
I would be surprised if ‘Bama even tries a pass attempt in the 2nd half. The freshman is really going to be thrown into the fire as UT will have to throw and Saban knows that.
As a Mississippian, I hate the Tide, but I have to pull for the SEC.
Instead of the Citi BCS National Championship Game, shouldn’t it be the TARP BS National Championship Game?
Really sucks to think that Tennessee stood toe to toe with Alabama especially considering the way they manhandled Florida and now Texas. I am glad Tennessee didn’t beat Alabama because an SEC team is handing Texas so far a butt whipping deluxe.
LOL!!
Oh they’ll feel good, alright. But I can’t imagine that some of those guys won’t think it a bit of a hollow victory. I mean, McCoy’s out so they’re taking on the inexperienced freshman. There’s no comparison. Of course Bama’ll win. Whoopee.
Current Alabama team better than the Gators of the Tim Tebow era? Looks like it.
Seems that ‘Bama is the top dog of the SEC for the next few seasons at least, I hope the Gators can steal a title somehow.
Someone needs to stop frying their food....
I absolutely mean that. Unless you have experienced the vitriol and condescension on bammer fans toward Auburn fans, you can't understand it.
Like replacing the Longhorns with the Cowboys?
SEC folks, fear it, I sure do , being Gators fan and all.
I would. Football is a team game. I'd love to see Texas come back, but if Ingram went out Alabama wouldn't fold up shop.
Commie Cronkite doing the UT promotional ad. How fitting. LOL!!!
