Well, here it is, the final game of the 2009 college football season. For much of the bowl season, I've had to work, get my car fixed, and Google search any insignificant question and computer problem my grandparents call me about. (You would think with their age and guile they'd have the answers to various things readily available. You would think). So needless to say, this has kept me from my assigned college football commenting duties. For that I apologize, but tonight I will get the festivities going. So without further ado...
The BCS National Championship Game: Alabama vs. Texas (8:00 pm) From the moment this matchup was set, I've been pondering what the key to this game should be and ultimately what it will be. Could it be the Longhorn offensive line having a chance to contain the legendary Mt. Cody? How about the Tide secondary and what they'll have to do to contain Jordan Shipley? And let us not forget the mystery of chessboxing that could occur between Nick Saban and Mack Brown. But I keep hearing that the Tide are going to make mince meat of the Horns, and that kind of ignores recent history. What did we learn from the last time we saw Texas in a title game? We should have learned not to count them out, right? So keep this in mind before we coronate a team in a game like this. In my usual neutral third party kind of observational style though, that doesn't necessarily mean that the Tide aren't every bit as good as advertised. I happen to think so, for whatever that's truly worth.
UT WR hands of stone. He needs to make that catch.
OMG. Gilbert throws a perfect, and is shot down.
FRink.
Yeah, he made a great pass. I’m so disappointed for him.
Yeah I’m watching getting ready to close the store....
I guess I was wrong and my guess is Tirico and Gruden are calling the game on the radio....
Crazy game so far indeed. Big plays all over the place, mostly by the Tide to this point.
We’ll see if this drive is a backbreaker for Texas after the Arenas INT.
Gideon played pretty well in coverage on the 2nd down pass. Hey, I have one of his Bibles! ;)
I think Mark Ingram is probably a little tired. Perhaps it’s time for him to sit out a couple of quarters to rest up.
Hey, I missed what Lisa Salters said earlier, did she mention anything about McCoy’s status?
LOL!!
you so funny.....
Shipley was so open. Yeah, I couldn’t keep it off.
Getting treatment and continual evaluation.
(Very bad word) again!
Although, if Gilbert can get everybody on his wavelength, this could get crazy.
That’s why he’s taken the Cavs to State Champs and won. He’s a thinker.
Go for it!
17-6 Bama
Why is TX even running plays??
That was horrible play calling by the Brown!!!! Just take the knee and get into the locker room.
They're probably asking themselves that now.
Colt McCoys little brother was a real good QB for Graham, Texas, this past year and has committed to play for Texas. It is unfortunate that Colt has been knocked out of the game because he was the Texas big threat and leader. Gilbert was an excellent HS QB but he has just been thrown to the wolves. Alabama has a plethora of riches with respect to running backs and is going to pound Texas into the sand. If Texas can come back into the game they will become a legend...as it is it looks bleak. The SEC is just tough. Now the score is 23-6 and Alabama is just getting started.
Defensive TD
I’m pulling for him. I didn’t see him play HS ball, but he’s obviously got great potential here.
It’s a struggle right now. 24-6
Well, Bama can’t feel as good about this game if they win. They are not playing the same team they thought they were going to be playing.
I guess with Colt McCoy out, too...that kind of evens it out.
