After an afternoon of negotiations produced an agreement, Mike Shanahan signed a five-year contract to become head coach and executive vice president of football operations for the Washington Redskins.
Under the terms of the new deal, Shanahan will team with Redskins executive vice president and general manager Bruce Allen, but Shanahan will have the ultimate authority on football decisions. Shanahan will be introduced as the Redskins head coach at a 2 p.m. ET news conference Wednesday.

He took the Broncos to two Super Bowls in a row.
Now if someone will kick that idiot Snyder out of town
Do you think he can talk Elway out of retirement, because he didn't win squat without him. Just saying.
Meanwhile, in more recent history, he’s 1-4 in the playoffs without John Elway and Terrell Davis. 7-9 in 2007, 8-8 in 2008.
Snyder is paying him reportedly up to $10 million a year? Really? Bonehead move. And what’s the point of bringing in Bruce Allen if you’re going to give Shanahan final say over the roster?
This won’t end well.
*chortle* Suuuurrrrre he will.
I wish all owners would just enjoy the game and let the GMs run the show, unless they become as incompetent as Matt Millen.
Good luck with that. Snyder is a complete moron so it doesn’t matter how talented coaches or players are, Snyder will screw it up. He can screw up a wet dream.
Snyder sure is a meddling owner.
I’m always amazed by the meddling owners. Because they are smart businessmen and made millions in some other business, they think they know how to run a football team on the field.
If Snyder and other meddlers were smart, they would learn from their mistakes, and hire good people and then get out of the way. Let his football experts do their jobs, and good things will happen. Interfere, and the losing seasons will continue to add up.
It seems especially dubious when you consider the strong possibility of a strike looming, and Snyder's legendary impatience.
Good luck to Coach Shanahan. Denver did him dirty.
The Redskins can have him. Elway won those Super Bowls, not Shanahan. Shanahan doesn’t have the ability to adapt from game to game.
“I’ve been a Redskins fan since 1956. Eddie LeBaron was the QB and Joe Kuharich was Head Coach”
You sure brought back the memories for me with your mention of Eddie LeBaron from Oakdale, Calif. He went on from Oakdale High to a great career as QB for then College of the Pacific in Stockton....he was called a magician for his ability to fake players (and referees) out of their jock straps.
In 1947 our grammar school played football...no pads tackle against Valley Home school in LeBarons’ cow pasture. Our biggest fear was not injury, but landing in a fresh cow pie.
Thanks for letting an old fud rant on this.
Sam Bradford-arm might not be as strong, but way more accurate.
It matters not if Shanahan coaches the Deadskins. The Cowboys will still own them.
The defense is still pretty solid, it just needs an offense that's worthy.
Go Iggles.
I think if healthy, Colt Brennan could be a decent QB.
