Mike Leach Gives Interview to ESPN, Trainer refutes James

Texas Tech head football athletic trainer Steve Pincock said Red Raiders receiver Adam James was placed in a "sports medicine garage" and media room as "big as a two-car garage" while recovering from a concussion, and was monitored by two trainers at all times.

Pincock's account of the incident, given in a statement to representatives of former Texas Tech coach Mike Leach, contradicts James' version of events that led to Leach being fired Wednesday.

James, who is the son of ESPN college football analyst Craig James, sustained a concussion on Dec. 16. He was examined the following day and told not to practice because of the injury and an elevated heart rate.

First it was putting a kid with a concussion in an electrical closet- which has been proven false. Now its cussing! Aw, you poor little baby, can't handle a coach cussing at his players. I swear, you and your PC, over sensitive ilk are what's wrong with this country. Next thing you know, you'll be complaining because a drill sarge ant called a solider a panty waist. You're a bigger puss than James is. How you are even a conservative is beyond me. Your oversensitive PC self is what one finds over at DU, not FreeRepublic.

Oh, and, I'd bet if any one of your friends got into trouble where their character were called into question, you'd write a letter on their behalf- asked or not.

You're being purposefully obtuse. I don't care if Leach cusses at his kids. But the obvious question is why cuss out a kid if the actions that immediately follow the verbal punitive actions are not punitive?

If my friends asked me to write a letter on their behalf, I certainly would. I would not attack the character of others in the letter as a means of supporting my friend. Nor would I release the letter to media outlets. But, other than that, just like Graham Harrell. You caught me.

You are incapable of having a logical point-A-to-point-B discussion on this topic for some reason which I have yet to ascertain but which is no doubt deeply personal.

I've been following this story, and FWIW, here's what I see. Leach is an excellent X & O coach, and also a good recruiter. He has taken a second tier college and turned them into a competitive team in the Big 12. Ask Colorado, A&M, Nebraska and Baylor how tough that is (Nebraska has made a heck of a come back, BTW.)

Although many people, including myself, would love to believe that football is somewhat pure, there are a lot of politics and behind the scenes stuff that goes on. Leach would never have survived at UT for this long, for example, due to comments like "their fat little girl friends." UT just won't have it, regardless of record. The days of guys like Woody Hayes, Bear Bryant and Darrell Royal are over. There's no way a Bear Bryant will have another summer camp in Junction, Texas.

Parents of players and alumni can be a phenomenal pain. I covered a high school program for a few years, and the coach was the most competent HS coach I've ever known. Some parents got upset because he wouldn't play their kids, as he had strict rules about off season conditioning programs and "if you don't practice you don't play." Some of these parents got elected to the school board, and refused to renew his contract the year this HS won the state title.

At colleges alumni and boosters are both a blessing and a curse.

Adam James was not the reason Tech fired Leach, he was the excuse. I've dealt with a ton of guys like him, and when I sit across the desk from them, one thought goes through my mind: "Son, life's gonna kick your @ss and there's nothing I can do about it." Daddy can't run interference forever. James is a petulant, spoiled little twit, but the AD wanted to fire Leach and couldn't do it because Leach was too popular at Tech.

My guess is that Bobby Knight had been around long enough to know you can shove players and assistant coaches around, but you kiss the AD's @ss. Leach wouldn't, and the AD was waiting to nail him. The question wasn't whether he would fire Leach, but what would be the excuse. I also think Leach became more belligerent this year, possibly daring the AD to do something.

From a Nebraska scribe who's seen a lot of Leach in Big 12 football wars.

I hope Mike Leach finds a splendid job.

Hearing a lot of chatter that the Buffalo Bills have approached him, and also some blog chatter (IE RUMORS) that Kentucky is interested if Rich Brooks announces his retirement as expected.

Adam James was not the reason Tech fired Leach, he was the excuse

Exactly. it is the same as with Tommy Tuberville at Auburn. Tubby would not kiss Bobby Lauder's arse (AU biggest donor) and he would not become one of the 'good ole boys' club.

Unfortunately for Auburn he was extremely populer with the students and normal alumni, it was only with the big money donors that he was never welcomed.

Louder and company tried for 5 years to get Tubby fired, and finally injuries and bad luck gave the team a bad year and a loss to Alabama, and that gave them the excuse to fire the winningest coach in the schools history.

Leach would not 'play ball' with the Big money people, and was disliked by the AD and major boosters. he finally gave them a golden wrapped excuse to fire him and they took it before they had to pay him thier bonus.

The sad thing is, they will never get a coach of his talent for a while -- they got rid of the man they wanted to get rid of, but they will make the school a has been in football now for many a year.

Was what Leach did to Punitive? Yes. Was it wrong? HELL NO!

I would have done the same exact thing. You have an arrogant player who was not talented enough to start or even be second string, with a papa that was a pain in the ass. He was known to be lazy and not want to put in the work to play.

I can tell you exactly how it went down. James thought he would get sent back to his dorm room to relax, play video games, lounge around, whatever. Leach got pissed off at his attitude and already disliked him.

When James whined about his head and the light, leach said fine — YOu can go over there and stand in the dark, BUT YOU ARE A MEMBER OF THIS TEAM AND YOU WILL BE WITH YOUR TEAM WHILE THEY PRACTICE AND WORK! Add in the expletives that surely were placed in there.

Adam James deserved how he was treated. he was not placed in a tiny space, both rooms were large and has areas he could sit, lay down, whatever.. so what if the didn’t have a comfy chair or a nice soft bed, or his friigin Nintendo game. To F***ing bad. His teammates were preparing for a bowl game and working thier tails off, he needed to be with his team and support them.

Baylor fans are worried that Briles will go to TT.

Why would ANY coach go to TT after what they did to the best coach they have had in 20 years? If TT will fire a coach just because he will not bow down to a pansy a$$ cry baby they will fire anybody for any reason.
