WHY DOES GOD APPEAR SO MEAN?
TruthInConviction ^ | Dec 31 | J. Grant Swank, Jr.

“Grant, I wonder if you are a football fan? Just because, if so, I hope you're demanding to the team ownership that the whole team should be put to death immediately. After all, a literal reading of the Bible does tell us that anyone who works on Sunday should be killed, right? And you've apparently linked belief in Christ with blindly following everything in the Bible.”

Babies are innocent.

They have committed no sin.

My indebitude is not in doubt.

Yet the fact remains that innocent babies are in fact due protection by all who can protect them.

I do believe we owe the unborn, and all innocent men, our protection. Scripture has established that we are our brother’s keeper.

God, however, is not presented as responsible for keeping anyone alive. He indeed gives us our lives; but our lives our his, and his to take. He does not sin.

“Babies are innocent.

They have committed no sin.”

The Bible agrees with you. For example when discussing Jacob and Esau, Romans 9:11 says:

“(for the children not yet being born, nor having done any good or evil. . .”

so it acknowledges that children, yet unborn, don’t do any good or evil.

But you are not acknowledging original sin.

“Behold I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin my mother conceived me.” Psalm 51:5

“For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam ALL die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive.” 1st Cor 15:21-22

The innocent unborn, were they to survive and go on with their lives, would sin eventually. We all do. This is because of original sin. In Adam’s fall, we sinned all.

It is wrong for anyone to fail to do all that they can to protect innocent life.

Are you positing a god who can ignore right and wrong, or the responsibility that awareness of wrongs entails?

I have no compulsion to affirm the premise that a baby is to be held responsible for the sins of their ancestors.

Sunday is not the Sabbath. Never has been, never will be. The Christians began meeting on the first day of the week, called in the Scriptures, The Lord’s Day, for that was the day that Christ rose from the dead. The ceremonial laws were fulfilled in Christ, for Christ in now our Sabbath as the Epistle to the Hebrews states. Christians do not regard one day more special than another.
In order to understand God, you have to know Christ first, for he is the image of the Father. You cannot know a gracious God except through his Son.

I am sorry for your pain and understand it...

I nursed both my father and mother in their terminal stages of cancer within my home...When mothers pain meds didn't work, I called the doctor and got her something that would...

I having been a nurse and quit to care for my mother had a little more knowledge than most having worked much on the Cancer floor of the hospital...Some people do have horrific deaths, but not all...For me the worse deaths I have seen have been terminal alcholic's....worse than some cancer patients..

But for some, stopping the pain is an art form from the doctor..It took my mother 6 weeks to pass and they were not pretty, but were relatively pain free. Not knowing about your mothers death, I do know that it is never easy having to sit by and you can do nothing for someone you love...

You age when this happened is also relevant...

My fathers passing on the farm was rather quick, again we went out of our way calling the doctor to get the right medication....Both slipped into coma before death.

In this day and age I see no reason for someone to die in bad pain...You have my sympathy..

I was preaching the gospel of Christ on a Thursday night farmer’s market in San Luis Obispo when my new acquaintance said he didn’t want anything to do with God because He’s an a$$#0|e. I was kind of dumbstruck by this response, and generated the standard deer-in-the-headlights expression.

But it got me to thinking. Many people struggle with the perception that God is mean-spirited, and often they question his fairness. I found a good analogy in Jesus’s actions & teachings.

One analogy was the woman who put in a couple of pennies into the collection box when all these flashy rich dudes put in a bunch of money and made a big deal out of it. Jesus had way more compassion for her than for them. Her contribution was WORTH more to Him than theirs was. I liked that as an example of God’s fairness.

Another analogy was the woman caught in adultery. Jesus didn’t forsake the law, didn’t say that we should just ignore it because it’s not relevant to this situation. In fact, he even encouraged others to fulfill the law, just throwing in one little twist of “he who is without sin cast the first stone”. Go ahead, cast it. But the crowd dispersed, starting with the oldest who were more conscious of their own sin nature.

One of the things that’s apparent here is that the woman’s husband evidently wasn’t there witnessing this, because there is a distinct possibility that his blood would boil and he’d cast the first stone even knowing he had sinned. At any rate, that’s a side point.

When the crowd dispersed and Jesus was alone with the woman, he said that “since they do not condemn you, neither do I.” The thing to keep in mind was that there WAS someone there who had not sinned — Jesus Himself. And if he wanted to, he could have cast that first stone. But He chose not to, and even took His cues from the rest of humanity. This is an excellent example of how “fair” God is.

No one I’ve ever spoken with about this passage has ever said that Jesus’s resolution of this situation was unfair. It was more than fair. And Jesus is God, so it’s a great example of how fair God is.

Those 2 examples of fairness help create a healthier mental picture of Christ.

“This is the most perilous time in world history and God can’t or won’t write braille for some of us who need it.”

What does He need to write that hasn’t already been written?

What instructions could possibly be given to help us escape the coming difficult times?

We have made our bed and now we must lie in it. That’s the principle I think you are missing. People want to blame this on Obama but it’s not really an Obama problem, it’s the liberal 20th century with its all-mighty central gov’t. The seeds we have sown we were told not to sow in many places in the Bible, such as “the debtor is slave to the creditor”. Just heeding that one piece of counsel would have saved us so much grief but this country didn’t choose that path.

Yes, I know you didn’t vote for all this liberalism but God also said that He would take care of those that are called by His name, even in the perilous times. Read Psalm 91. It is a Psalm of encouragement and really applies to this era.

Contrary to what many people think, God is not in control of everything. We are in control of our own destiny by our choices. It was the same with the Israelites. People think that all the stuff that happens in life is from God but most of it is just stuff that other people choose to do. People have the expectation that God is pulling all the strings for everything that happens on earth but that’s not true. It’s up to us to make this world a better place, with His wisdom and blessings.

“Yet I have found that God gives ALL things out of love”

I disagree that his mother’s painful death was specifically from God.

There are many things on earth which happen out of the purview, cause, or will of God. I know many disagree with that idea but I believe it is consistent with scripture.

“But He chose not to, and even took His cues from the rest of humanity.”

I might argue that Christ took his cues from what he saw the Father do as well. The Father didn’t suddenly rain fire and brim stone on such a woman nor would Christ do so as well. The Father was merciful to men and Christ was to be the conduit of his mercy and grace!

A verse comes to mind..”He will judge, not as men see but rather the heart, and he will judge with righteous judgment”...
