If you're a fish danger can come from any direction.
Those claws are almost as long as a man's finger and needle sharp.
You got it, brother! Open your eyes, folks, it’s there to be seen. (however it seem some folk have handy cameras. ;-)
The Bald Eagle is Haliaeetus leucocephalus, the Osprey is Pandion haliaetus, they are closely related. The Bald Eagle is bigger but the Osprey is “badder” LOL. I’ve seen them snatch a fish from an eagles claws, in flight.
Just totally and completely amazing pictures!
Awesome shots..wow! Thanks.
Striking bird; beautiful shots!
Thanks, I hate television and I’d be mortified if someone caught me watching most of that silly BS, so I lurch around with a bag full of photo gear!
What camera etc. do you use for these shots?...truly amazing
First and third are with my Sony A-200, with an old Minolta 70-210 f4 lens, the one called the “beercan. For the really close shot I had my Olympus TCON 17 screwed on to the beercan. That gives me 535mm equivalent. The TCON 17 works better than a “proper” DSLR teleconvertor. It is brighter and sharper. Second shot is with my Panasonic FZ30.

Beautiful.
Here’s another hazard for fish;
great pics
Ok,... right....for one here that has difficulty with a disposible camera...Yep, I got it... HAHAHAHHAHA...
Seriously, you sure did an outstanding job. I’ve had some interest in taking good shots..but honestly when I went to look at cameras it was quite an overwhelming ordeal. How do you pick?
What would you advise for someone just starting out?
I know a lot of people who don't think they can do it, they are all wrong, LOL.
What kind of photography do you think you want to do? That will determine the gear you need.
When I first saw this ping I actually thought it may be an Air Force topic. ;->
I worked for over three decades at the company that produced the “bird” called an Osprey (V-22) that is what you probably observed near the Joint Reserve Base. It is performing well in AFG and Iraq.
The avian Osprey is amazing, too, with its ability to spot its prey, stoop and snatch the fish from the water. Good photos, Swampsniper!! I always enjoy your pics.
phenominal video!
Awesome.
Very nice shots, Swampsniper.
If I may be so bold, what gear did you use (camera, lens, etc.)?
Oops - I see you’ve already listed the gear in post 29.
