Oddly quiet all off-season, the New York Mets finally made their long-awaited answer to the significant moves of their crosstown and divisional rivals -- that would be the Yankees and Phillies, respectively -- agreeing to terms with free agent left fielder Jason Bay on a four-year deal believed to be worth around $65 million.

Isn’t he an injury waiting to happen?
Mets still suck.
That would be J.D. Drew. Drew does have a sweet swing, probably prettiest swing for a left hander in the majors.
Bay was a reliable player, RBI man and fielder. He was such a breath of fresh air after the Mannie soap opera.
I didnt realize Jason Bay was Latin American.
Someone needs to tell Minaya that they don’t speak Spanish in Canada.
I know, you folks in the Bay State will miss the breezes from his mighty swings (...and he misses). Good luck Mets in left field. You ain’t seen nothing yet.
Apparently his agent precipitated this move. Bay was a tremendous improvement over Mannie in the field and probably more productive at the plate, since Mannie was mailing it in his last couple of years.
Bay lead the league in RBIs for much of the season and seemed to have a lot of clutch hits.
The guy tanked after the all-star break, and took the Sox with him. I know it’s not all his fault, but he was a big part of it.
Bay had his chances and tried for more and got it. Now his defensive liabilities will be magnified in Citi Park. He couldn’t throw out guys on an infield hit to Fenway’s small left field, couldn’t get to too many balls, and over all was just a little better offensively than defense.
Besides, why would you want to pay a less than .270 streaky hitter 16 and a half million dollars for the next 5 years?
That’s why his only option, when it came down to it, was the Mets. There’s a reason why everybody passed on him.
But, you are right, it was nice to get him after Manny.
