While some would alarm all-around abating a theory, others would alarm it a accurate set of facts. Opinions alter vehemently. Let us accede all-around abating to be both a apriorism that the ambiance of the apple as we apperceive it is slowly, but actual absolutely accretion in all-embracing air and baptize temperature, and a affiance that if whatever is causing this trend is not disconnected or challenged activity on apple will dynamically be affected.

30 here in the sun. DP said they’ll know at 2:00 (in half an hour) whether Tom will be in the semifinals for his competition. If not, they’ll come home!
Good luck to Tom! I’ll say some extra prayers for him.
Best wishes for the New Year.
We’re all good, baby is running around and healthy.
My best to all.
I’m glad to hear that!!
Are you still looking for a house here? I am, too. :o]
Today it’s sunny, so I’ve ventured out of the rec deck to..do battle with evil forces, or something similar. Also, because the JOOD today threatened to toss me overboard if I didn’t shut up and go away. I think he may have a hangover.
Next week we are going underway for a few days, to see if the ship will blow up or crack in half as soon as we get out to sea. There will definitely be fire drills, and most likely an actual fire. I hope the weather holds up. Standing on the flybridge at two in the morning on lookout is more fun when it isn’t pouring rain. The Admiral’s..thing..went over well, I suppose. If it hadn’t we probably wouldn’t have gotten liberty this weekend, so..
In other news, I talked to another seaman today about standing my billets when I take leave. Turns out she’s going on leave earlier in March, so I’m going to stand her duty days and then when she comes back she’ll stand mine. This works out very nicely. Currently planning to spend a good bit of the day lounging around drinking coffee, and then I’ll go buy a calender and (if I find a good one that’s fairly cheap) a map of the world. My berthing doesn’t have one, and we need it to track our route(s) to parts unknown. After which, depending on time and weather, I’ll go get babaganoush at the takeout Iranian restaraunt on 1st and head back to the ship.
Today, being a pleasant day, requires music of the drinking and nautical variety:

I had put four cash offers which of course were all rejected.
We get comped at places like The Hotel for free when we come down. My wife is starting to suggest we go for a closer vacation place in CA, maybe California city or Palm Springs.
I still check out Vegas, so maybe I might still buy there.
The 4+ hour drive up there to visit a house and the area instead of maybe 70 minutes to Palm Springs does raise an issue on some levels though.
We will see.
I vote with you on the travel part. You may find something better closer to home. I’m looking in the older part of town for what I want, since I don’t need much. And I know Vegas too well to try and buy anything there.
When Igor was in the aerospace business, I hung a world map on the hallway wall so the kids could plot his travels. By the time he was done, so was the map.
But they had a better understanding of geography than most kids their ages.
I also sent him a 4’ X 6’ crossword puzzle when he was at the American compound in Saudi Arabia. It took a LONG time for that to get done! I found both in a little book store in Oly.
If I can find one that has a plastic covering, I can use a grease pencil instead of tearing up the map. Unfortunately, grease pencil smears after a while. I’ll figure something out.
Some of the maps I’ve seen here in Vegas are already laminated when you buy them. You might consider that at well.
The book store employee should know an acceptable substitute for grease pencil.
I’m sure you’ve thought of this, but check out a store that specializes in hiking gear. I’m sure you can do it online.
If I don’t find something suitable at Borders, there’s a map store down on the waterfront that I may try. If it’s still open. The stores there depend on the ebb and flow of the cruise ship tourists, and it is the off-season. If not there, the pirate store might have something..it’s one of those places that gets a new item of use every few weeks. Last month there were several cutlasses, some of which were fairly historically accurate. I didn’t buy one, because it would count as a weapon and I’d have to keep in ship’s armory so there’d be no point to having it.
In any case, there may be a map there that would work.
Sounds good to me! Of course, you could always have them ship it home for you. My daughter collects swords and daggers, and she ran out of wall space for them. Most are in their own closet.
They don't get along with each other?
Should they? They’re all different.
Well, one of these days, when I have my own boat to live on, I too will have a collection of weapons. Also, more books and a ship’s cat.
(I’ve decided this is preferable to having a house, as one can easily sail wherever they want to go, while flying is both no fun and, recently, a pain. I just need a paying excuse. Perhaps if my writing or comic-book career takes off..you can make lots of money writing swashbuckle novels.)
This will be a wooden boat, with sails, so I’ll need a crew. Bill can come, and also when the youngest boys are old enough they can live aboard over the summer, and thus learn about sailing. It will be fun, and way better than having a place that doesn’t go anywhere.
Overhead-projector markers (remember overhead projectors, ‘Face?) wipe off plastic.
There are lots of map stores on the internet, but sturdy maps, especially plastic-covered, can be pretty expensive. There are some in vinylized paper, the size of a bed sheet, that pulled down on rolls like window shades when I was in school.
DP called, Tom did not make it to semifinals. Means he wasn’t in the top 10%, I suppose, out of around 80 competitors, so it doesn’t mean he wasn’t doing well. Cold, cold, cold!
When we were in Oregon, we looked for sloops and other small vessels that had been siezed in drug raids. There were quite a few that I would loved to have had.
But...
One thing for sure: a vessel will certainly help the wanderlust! Good luck on your ideals. They seem reachable to me, for sure!
Do you have your leave dates secured? OldTax-lady wants to know!
I want a smaller one that fits in the part of my rack that isn’t covered in John Wayne posters.
They have one of those on the boat. I saw it the other day. A Chief explained what it was to us.
