While some would alarm all-around abating a theory, others would alarm it a accurate set of facts. Opinions alter vehemently. Let us accede all-around abating to be both a apriorism that the ambiance of the apple as we apperceive it is slowly, but actual absolutely accretion in all-embracing air and baptize temperature, and a affiance that if whatever is causing this trend is not disconnected or challenged activity on apple will dynamically be affected.

I wonder who, at what peculiar point in history, ever considered those outfits to have any relationship to a sensible military uniform.

"I wonder who, at what peculiar point in history, ever considered those outfits to have any relationship to a sensible military uniform."

The Turks and the Germans wondered the same thing as the Evzones slit their throats. I understand the Germans on the Western Front wonder the same thing about the Ladies from Hell, right s!

What counts, TC, is killing the other side until they get sick of dying. The cut of a soldier's uniform, especially ones like these, only adds a certain piquancy to the killing process!

Hello. Apparently we’re going underway next week for what is called a ‘fast cruise’ (supposedly only 3-4 days, but who knows.) I only found out about this just now. Today we stripped down the doors in officer country again, because the last people to paint them did it wrong. This took a long time. Several officers came and made fun of us, which was not suprising considering that most of Deck Force was high from using denatured alchohol in enclosed spaces. Then Bosun cussed them out and made us go outside for a ‘smoke break’ until the place aired out a bit.
A big-time admiral is visiting cutter MELLON tomorrow. This involves the Captain and everyone dressing up in bravos. Not me. I get to wear my work uniform and pretend I’m not aboard. There will be six sideboys, which means this is an important person. I’m not a sideboy, fortunately, or a messcook, so I won’t have to be anywhere near the admiral or CO during that time. I will..probably be hiding in my berthing or something.
I got my NRA membership, or at least a note indicating that I have one now. Thank you.
I gave you general powers of attorney over my ‘estate’ (that is, a handful of books and computer equipment and an internet bill) also, in case I get shot or..I dunno..stranded in Singapore for an extended amount of time, or something.

Maybe they pulled the sheets off the clotheslines on their way to the war and had to make them into *something*.

Good on ya! The PoA will make it easier to do your taxes if you get stuck in Peoria or wherever, too. Be careful with those industrial solvents; you can get permanent brain damage from inhaling!

Will you ever get to be a sideboy, or are you too short?

I got her a Life Membership (deep discounts!) for Christmas, so now she can forget about it for the rest of her life, except for changing her address.

It looks like the 2010 convention will be here in Charlotte. That must be why my cousin Barbara and her husband said they’d be here this year.

No, I didn’t get chosen because being a sideboy requires one to keep a straight face for more than two minutes at a time, which I am incapable of as a rule.

Of course, the NRA convention would be in Charlotte right when I'm about to go underway half the year.

I figured it was too short or too snarky. You’d get cold, anyway.

If we get to the convention, we’ll buy you something cool. I think Cousin Barbara said they’d be here in May, so that must be when it is.

I have to go find Frank now.

Pat needs marbles ...

Pat lost his marbles...? *\;-)

Aiii. What a day! Getting up "early," even with my nice sitar ringtone, is difficult in our dark midwinter. Stopped at the store and picked up 2 dozen doughnuts for my guests. Was 3/4 of the way to final prep when the first of my guests, the Japanese contingent, arrived -- so now I had to play host while trying to finish everything.

But I had time; the North Americans (well, that's where they are now but one's Latin American and the other something European I don't recognize) were late and the Chinese even later; traffic was apparently really bad today. (The Finn didn't make it due to too much snow in Frankfurt.)

We started late but it went *really* well. All except for my now being convener of a brand new working group (subcommittee) developing material for an industry I know little about and am not in. Though there may be business opportunities for my employer in it; won't know how much until we're done.

At least it comes with little travel -- MAYBE one domestic trip a year. But that conference is usually on the East Coast. Though at a time it is not too likely to conflict with my other committees.

We wound up about as late as we started, but after a long lunch and hosting members who were waiting for their hotel shuttles, and writing up the minutes of the meeting, I had used up the entire day and a little more.

And the doughnuts? Only one got eaten. By me. Because I needed *something* in my stomach to keep it from going twitchy by lunchtime. (I don't need or really want all that fat, sugar and starch, but at least I got a nice meatless salad for lunch.)

I am *so* tired...

Most interesting! Thanks.

I couldn't imagine donning such a uniform -- but I once felt the same about the kilt. Of course, the ladies' reaction to the latter changed that in a flash. *\;-)

“Of course, the ladies’ reaction to the latter changed that in a flash. *\;-) “

The ladies’ reaction in Greece to the honored Evzones is just the same, trust me!

A friend was an Evzone, a special forces officer and ultimately a member of the Presidential Guard. Like all Evzones, he was over 6’ tall. His wife has two pictures of him in a frame. One from lets say 35 years ago in full uniform with the caption “Greek God” and another from a couple of years ago in a bathing suit down in Thessaloniki, gut and all, encaptioned “God D*mn Greek”. Sad, but true!

The Peorians are running muck? From where, and who's buying it?
