Urban Meyer leaving Florida according to ESPN
He wanted to coach at Notre Dame but they already have somebody to replace Weiss.
Damn! Lane Kiffen will miss that chance. (Godspeed Urban Meyer, you’re a hell of a Coach.)
Agreed. This sounds like it might be some very serious health problem. Prayers for him and his family if that’s the case.
If he ends up taking an NFL job . . .
He may be fed up, but he's about as Mormon as the Pope.
Ummmmm no Urban is a staunch Catholic. He also was an assistant coach at Notre Dame during Lou Holtz’s last year.
Lol, you give your self-righteousness a rest. This is an odd story with very scant information. We'll know more in the months ahead.
Whatever Coach Meyer’s health problems are, I hope they can be taken care of and he lives a long happy life.
That said, I can’t help but think the issue is that he is worried Sick of coaching without Tim Tebow.
“self-righteousness a rest”... huh, is that a substitute for intelligence they teach in the Alabama public schools. The guy according to Sports Illustrated has had previous health problems, he was hospitalized after the SEC Championship game and if you follow Gator football know Urban has had an unexplained weight loss and was advised by doctors to cool it on the stress. Sure there could be health information not revealed but you shot your mouth off is some half-as*ed attempt to talk smack before you knew what you were talking about, so maybe you should pipe down junior.
It’s only a rumor until Meyer or Florida make a statement.
Ignore Will88 he is a certified idiot. Sad that Alabama fans who have no discernible life besides sniffing the jock of their beloved Alabama Crimson tide jock straps have to take a potentially tragic situation and make it about Urban being chicken to face life in the SEC.
Wow. What sad news for such a determined, driven man. Our prayers are with you, Urban. Thank you for a truly amazing run : |
Go Gators.

Oh no - Corch Urban Meyers leaving Gatah!
Our first thought was that he might be going to another University, but once they posted his statement about health issues, family, and faith - then said he was staying right there in Florida - we realized this is probably very serious. You don’t step down from a position like this for funsies.
Not a Gator fan but I hope it’s nothing so serious that he can’t resume his career once he resolves his issues. Once he decides to return, he won’t be out of a job for long.
Apparently the Athletic Director has confirmed the stepping down and is quoted in the early stories so I doubt this is just rumor.
it sounds like stress.
You really need to get on the phone to ESPN because three of three commentators are questioning Meyer’s decision. Just not buying it hook, line and sinker like some.
Like all cooler heads, they also say we’ll know more later, and are having quite a discussion about dealing with pressure, and he may well coach again.
Again, give your silly self-righteousness a rest.
Oh.
It sounds more serious than Vermeil-style burnout. There's three possibilities.
1) It really is what they are saying and he's going to get himself healthy and relaxed, if possible.
2) He's angling for a new contract/better job and this is his way of positioning himself for that.
3) He found a golf club had shattered his back window and decided to take the hint, citing the "spend time with my family" dodge.
For now, I'm accepting the first as the most plausible answer but, with what we've seen the past five weeks, you can't rule out the other possibilities.
