"A Christmas Story", Blind Ralpie censored
TNT | Dec. 25, 2009 | self

Posted on 12/25/2009 12:54:28 AM PST by tlb

Just an observation. Watching it just now the "blind Ralphie" scene was cut. The movie (at least the 2 AM showing) is missing the scene after Melinda Dillon tastes the soap when it should have cut to Ralphie. Offensive to the sight-impaired I guess, not that they'd have seen it.

I told you not to use "Lifebuoy."

Major Award destruction. Household accident or domestic violence by proxy?

I know many people love this movie, but I just never was able to get into it and I tried many times over. I am glad that others enjoy it though.

That’s intersting. We watched it on TBS between 8 and 10 and it was in then. Matter of fact, while it was on if she ever experienced the wanting your parents to pay for the discipline they did while growing up.

She never noticed his smile as the scene closed.

Last sentence should be she never noticed before that he smiled like he did as the scene closed.

BTW, I visited the Christmas Story house in Cleveland last weekend.

"How about a nice .... football?"

We love this movie so much, we own it on DVD.

Now if you want to see a real bad b-grade Christmas movie, there's nothing like Santa Claus Defeats The Martians It's like watching a car-wreck in slow motion. Once you start, you just can't stop. (This has become a classic on local indy TV in the Chicago Market on ME-TV)

Santa Claus CONQUERS the Martians, you uncouth hooligan, you! ;) I have the Mystery Science Theater version--Pia Zadora's finest hour.

My history with A Christmas Story goes back to the year it came out on video, when I was working in a record/video store. A fellow worker wouldn't bug me until I watched it. Years of me telling people about it followed, to be met with "What's THAT?" at best, and "I didn't think it was that funny" at worst. Now of course EVERYONE loves it, and I have the thing memorized to the point of nausea.

It will be on at my mom's house tomorrow, though, because she likes to quote lines from it, so I will of course enjoy it.

I always think of that evil male elf as Tim Robbins, though I know it's not him. "Come ahhhhn, kid."

I’m watching it right now on TBS and the “Blind Ralphie” scene is in there — they just took a commercial break before they showed it.

I have absolutely no idea why, but I'm watching Santa Claus Conquers the Martians on YouTube for the second time today....what the heck, I couldn't sleep I figured I'd be bored to the point of sleeping but this hasn't worked.

I found the MST3K version, have that queued up to watch next. Is it the same story line?

You don't know about MST3K? Oh boy, you're in for a treat. (Unless you hate the concept--some people do.)

MST3K shows the same movie, but has three characters talking back to the screen, like you and your pals would if you watched it late at night together.

I will put mine on when I get home (I worked Christmas Eve, and still am), to warm me up before going to my mother's for dinner. I won't tell you anything about it, will ruin the surprise.

Just got to the end of "Santa defeats Martians" and saw Pia Zadora's name in the credits.

I'm familiar with MST3K, used to watch it on TV all the time. Guess I'm more tired than I thought, time to get some sleep before the kids wake up in an hour or so....

Merry Christmas!

Interestingly (or not), I feel the same way about It’s a Wonderful Life. I know it’s a classic, and appreciate the fact that many people absolutely love it, but I just never got into it all that much.

All of Santa Claus Conquers the Martians as presented by Chicago’s Svengoolie.

And speaking of Christmas Story here is all of the sequel My Summer Story aka It Runs in the Family

(Jean Shepherd as narrator and Tedde Moore as the teacher,
Miss Shields, are the only returning players). Ralphie’s
fishing trip with The Old Man; the hillbilly neighbors;
dish night at the theater, etc.

Just as an aside, has anyone else seen the sequel to A Christmas Story? It was called “It Runs in the Family” and boy howdy was it ever a stinker! None of the cast from the first film were part of it, except for the narrator (Jean Shepard). Mary Steenburgen played the mom, One of Macauley Culkin’s brothers played Ralphy, and Darren McGavin’s part was played by (of all people) Charles Grodin.

Yeah the sequal was stinky. Not worthy of the original.
