RIP George.
RIP George
The Sports Machine was a late Sunday night ritual in my house for many many years. RIP George...you ruled it.
He is part of one of the funniest video clips out there.
Good guy, and DC institution. So sad for his family at this time of year. QDEP.
I remember him when he was local in DC.
Impossible to imagine ESPN without the Sports Machine. It redefined sports coverage, although he will never be credited as such. RIP.
RIP.
He also was a DJ on Musicradio WABC in New York during the 70’s.
He was a good guy RIP
Used to see him on the local news when I lived in the D.C. area. He loved horses. I remember he lived on a big horse ranch out in Maryland somewhere and when the ‘96 blizzard snowed him in, the news station picked him up by helicopter.
Wow, I remember him when I was a kid, if there is a sportscaster Hall of Fame he’s sooo in there, RIP
I still have a videotape I made of “plays of the month” and “bloopers of the month” over the years. He was truly a pioneer, and excellent at his job.
When serving in Okinawa George’s Sports Machine was *the* link back to reality...never missed a tape delayed episode on FEN...
First the Redskins die, now George Michael. Well heck.
He will be missed.
George Gimball (real name). I rememeber him at WFIL in Phaildelphia during the Sixties.
Damn it I though you meant the homo who ruined christmas song forever with the horrid “Last Christmas”! Anywho RIP!
Remember watching him on AFN while stationed in Germany. Always liked watching him. Prayers for his family.
Oh wow... I listened to this man every night while I was in my room doing my homework back in the ‘60s. He was a DJ on WFIL (560am) in the Philly area. I even won “Boss Beads” from him in a contest one night. Another time he played a request from some girl I asked out on a date. The song was ‘Together’ by the Intruders and it was dedicated to me, by name. Yikes, that was embarrassing...
Anyway, rest in peace George Michael, along with my long gone youth.
