Green Bay's junior hockey team, which had a home game interrupted by a flying bat that met its demise after it was swarmed by former Edina star Anders Lee and other stick-swinging players, is seizing on the incident to raise money for a wildlife sanctuary.

In response to criticism of the bat's public and immediate death last week, a "Bat Trick" promotion will be staged starting with the team's game Dec. 31. Resch Center fans will be able to buy a toy bat in the team store for $2. All of the proceeds will go to the Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary.

As part of the promotion, fans can either keep the bats or toss them on the ice when the Gamblers score their first goal in any game. The bats will be collected, returned to the team store and sold again.

This is all we need, 100s of drunk fans encouraged to throw things onto the ice.

At least it died for a good cause, to help its own kind with donations by it human overlords.

I prefer my bats with onions and some Italian seasoning.

“...[a] public and immediate death...”

Sometimes, that’s the best one can hope for in this world, LOL!

Bats weren’t too much of a problem this year. I think we only had THREE in the house over the spring/summer. The Brown Bats (most common) around here have some sort of fungus killing them off.

And, well, I can’t say I’ll shed a tear for them as I scream from under the kitchen table while the rat-with-wings dive-bombs me and I plead with Husband to, ‘DO SOMETHING!’ LOL!
