Hector was one of 52 terribly abused and neglected dogs owned by NFL quarterback Michael Vick and his friends. He landed here in Minnesota and is now part of a student service learning project which teaches the kids not to be mean or hurt animals.
"He lived outside in the woods in a wire cage. So did the other dogs. They had very little food, very little water," said kindergarten teacher Amber Anderson.
Third graders at Barack and Michele Obama school in St. Paul got a special visit Tuesday from Hector.
"In St. Paul, there seem to be quite a bit of pets ... not always treated well. So, we're trying to let them see another side of owning a pet as opposed to what they see at home or at a friends," said Anderson. "If you can catch them at an early age and plant the seed of kindness and empathy we think that it will hopefully pass on for the rest of their lives."
Amazingly, Hector's adopted family said his abusive former life did not change him into an aggressive and dangerous dog.
"He just had to learn how to be a pet dog but He didn't need any behavior modification or anything. He was already a very sweet, solid dog," said owner Cara Yori.
Hector was kind enough to pass 10 tests and become a certified therapy dog.
He is currently busy bringing cheer to nursing homes and hospitals around Minnesota.
Maybe it’s just because it’s 2 am, and we’re all out selling selling drugs to underaged pit bulls.
You know how those bully owners are.

I now own a Scott American Bulldog. I think it’s great folks are saving and working with these critters but remember one thing....
no Bully style dog can be expected to play well with other dogs...especially males with other males but female bullies will engage in doggiecide too , don’t think they won’t
and do not leave any Guard type dog bully or not alone with little children...period.
these can be great dogs but they have to be handled by caring folks with a strong alpha human in the home
American Bulldogs whether Scott or Johnson are Molassers...bred from Mastiffs and old Bulldogs
Pits are Mastiff blood with Terrier hence the higher intensity to fight
some folks have interbred them to make a bigger pitbull..and not always with good intentions
they will be here soon enough
Indeed so. There are 22 of Vicks’ pits at the Best Friends Sanctuary, and their stories are heartbreaking... and some of them look so very sad.

So Michele is part of the school name?
I’d forbid my kids to go to THAT school.
Actually, it is officially called....”Barack and Michelle Obama Service Learning Elementary.”
