Congrats on finding this FReeper’s problem. While reading this thread something you said rang a bell with me:I think the message was from Malware or something, pretending to be an AV program Yes, thats one of their MO’s

I clicked on an unkown website the other day, and got a meesage box offering to DL an AV software, all the while my window was opened to My Computer and showed flashing numbers of “bugs” on my C & D drives. It would not let me X out of it and re-flashing more messages when my cursor went near the X. I suspected something was attacking my machine, so I shut down, and re-started. Everything seems fine since.... Your take on this, please? Did I handle it right or do I have some malware or something now that I am not aware of?

Thats what they try to do. They want you to DL whatever they have in store for you. I have gotten to the point where you can’t get out of the screen, I just terminate my browser control/alt/delete. & find browser in applications.

It has saved me several times.

Indeed. I love Macrium Reflect. It uses VSS to take snaps while Winders is running. I do one per month for each of my systems and laptops then rolloff the old ones. All reside on a huge USB drive. This has saved my bacon several times. DR is as easy as booting with a premade CD and re-imaging from The Archives. So sweet...it's giving me a sugar buzz!

I have never had any trouble with AVG so would you still recommend changing to Avast?

Thanks in advance.

AVG can be real buggy.

I prefer AVIRA.

I will also recommend AVIRA...its free and its very good.

Update it every morning when you log on to the intarweb. Right click its little thing on your bottom right screen and click on the update...works great.

Since AVG is working for you, I don’t see any reason to change.

I used it several years. If it weren’t for some conflicts with some other programs, I would probably still be running it.

That’s what I’m going to do. Thanks.

I prefer AVIRA.

I took your advice, and of others on this thread and loaded Avira while this thread was active. It took 2:01 hrs to scan, but found no problems. I dont know if that is good or not. Time will tell, I suppose.
