Perhaps you remember Charles Walker of the U.S. Olympic team of 1976. He was the lone White guy on the team and came from a background of tap dancing. In boxing he had great footwork.
Charles Walker is a fellow Texan. He went back to dancing after hanging up his gloves. I fenced in college. Surprisingly easy to get on the team since they had trouble fielding a full squad. I did very well because of my footwork. As a boxer, my footwork was more side to side, even on the narrow piste, than back and forth and it always threw my opponents off. Footwork in boxing is very dependent on rythum. Step, punch, step, step punch, punch, step, punch, punch. You have your feet and rythum working in concert and you have a very good dancer.
