Bench Favre? Vikings coach Childress considered it vs. Panthers

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- Brett Favre and Brad Childress enjoyed quite the honeymoon in their first three months together in Minnesota.

The coach coaxed the quarterback out of retirement to play for the Vikings, picking up the 40-year-old from the airport and personally chauffeuring him to team headquarters to sign a contract in August.

The meltdown begins. The exact same thing happened to Favre last year when he played for the Jets. Jets were 8-3 and in position for a division title, and then Favre completely collapsed. Same thing is going to happen to the Vikings.

Not for 1 game for the love of Pete! Crap anyone canhave a bad game. The Vikings are in the spot they are BECAUSE of Favre. That would be dumber than dog crap to do. Besides when I was listening to the game on the radio all I heard seemed to be “dropped by...” “off the hands of...”

Viking fans welcome to our world! I'll be routing for the Bears next week when they play the Vikings. I hope Jay Cutler can have one good game this year.

Sure...sure...that O-Line and running back have nothing to do with it right?

Farve’s a prima donna that has some skill but is being helped considerably by that cast around him taking pressure off.

I’m no longer watching the NFL but this is a dilemma all the same. I still carry my dislike of certain individuals and teams. McNabb vs Farve? That’s a no win situation. But given their performance in the playoffs it’s unlikely either will make it to the Superbowl.

I think Childress was more thinking about it as a protection thing, since Peppers and the Panthers’ D-Line was killing them. But I don’t understand why he said w/ a lead, but he did bench his starting left tackle, who is a top 10 LT, and their LG Steve Hutchinson one of the best the players in the league didn’t fare too well either. Carolina just dominated them.

Farve had defense linemen in his face all night long. Childress should have benched him to protect him from getting injured during a game the Vikings could afford to lose. The Vikings are 11-3 and have clinched the North, so it's not the exact same thing that happened last year. The Jets have pretty much found themselves in the same spot as last year without Farve’s help.

No matter what, the Vikings always eventually choke before actually going anywhere. I think it is the Feng Shui of their stadium but others tell me it has to do with an ancient curse Prince, back when he was known as symbol man, put on the team for stealing his purple look. Purple is the color of royalty and madness, after all.

There was a heated discussion during the game. Some are claiming Farve was benched but refused to come out. They were saying that Farve kept calling audibles on run plays to make them pass plays and wasn’t executing. He was also taking a beating.

The Vikings had the purple and gold before Prince was a white tad pole.

Yep I was at the game and Minnesota Linemen weren’t protecting Favre at all.

In the two losses, they are not giving Peterson the ball. The original plan was for Favre to hand off to Peterson and only pass when needed, like in 3rd-and-long or come-from-behind situations.

Peterson wears down defenses. He WILL always break open for a long score sooner or later. By snapping back and passing, Favre is making the O-line tired. It's easier to block for Peterson than to keep giving Favre pass protection.

When playing for NYJ, Favre stated he considered going to Minnesota but only out of spite (that GB chose a new QB after he retired... what did he expect, they’d retire the QB position in his honor?), so he settled in/for NY. This year he goes to Minnesota. Spite, anyone?
In those two moves he proved that he was a faker. He has zero class. Now the coach tries to bench him and he usurps the coach’s authority. What a snob with an inflated sense of entitlement! If nobody sticks a pin in him soon he’ll have to settle as a float in the Rose Parade.

Disclaimer, 49ers fan, but used to cheer for Favre before he flipped off the Packers, because I thought he embodied the rare quality for pro athletes of class. Oh, I was so wrong. At least GB now has Aaron Rodgers, a fellow Californian. Too bad SF didn’t draft him.

The Vikings can choke all on their own; having Grandpa Poison is just expediting the matter. Hey, if you’ve been choking since the 1960’s, you’d be purple too!

What's to miss? No team in the history of the NFL has had so many lousy QB's as the the Bears. I still remember the days when George Halas used to storm up and down the sidelines yelling at Bobby Douglas calling him a bum...good times!
