ames Cameron decade long production of Avatar finally came to the big screen on Friday. With the cutting edge technology and 3D special effects, Cameron tried to bring the alien world of Pandora from his mind's eye to the movie theater.

Saw the 3D version earlier today. I really enjoyed it...probably will see it again. Its definately better than any of the ‘new’ star wars movies. As far as the anti-american message, you just have to take it with a grain of salt, its not anything you haven’t seen 100 other times in hollywood. That being said, the theater wasn’t even a quarter full, and there was no great crowd waiting to get into the next showing. It better get really good word of mouth...

Hoping to see this one before the weekend is out. At the very least, Thunder Cats battling Space Marines on a Yes album cover will be worth it! :-D

AVATARS demise will run parallel with the tumbling fall of both Obama, and Tiger Woods. Good things come in threes. You sound, like my wife. Doom,Gloom and everything going to the dogs.
What makes you believe that your opinion is so important!

“You sound like my wife......what makes you think your
opinion is so important?”
-—uhhh, dude, since I am not married to you, why don’t
you ask your wife?
Just because someone offers an opinion (that’s what FR
is all about, in case you haven’t noticed) doesn’t mean
he considers it “important”. Excuse me now, I have better things to do than be integrated into the middle of some
stranger’s marital problems.

Yes,
What is MOST important, is to blow off the subliminal amoral message projected by Hollywood. The message is; Capitalism = EVIL, Communism = righteous, Environmentalism = Spirituality. The outcome is; Kill all evil Capitalist Militaristic Humans who try to enslave the pure protectors of the Utopian Environment.
Marx, Mao, Lennon and Stalin would be envious of such Propagandizing achievement!

While I enjoyed most of the flim, I believe that Mr. Cameron's has not only shown us what millions of dollars worth of special effects can do, he has shown us what millions of dollars of special effects cannot do and that is give us a new, complete story, a story free of worn out cliche and sterotypes.
Good effort Mr. Cameron, but Avatar is no Titanic and if the only thing ground breaking about this film turns out to be pixels on a green screen, then in my humble opinion, that is not enough. about a m

This was a beautiful movie. Attempts to characterize it as a retelling of white imperialism are just cheap political hits. The movie uses popular myth about the noble savage to good effect. Let’s face it, the people mining that planet for “unobtanium” were mostly just a-holes. Anyone want to seriously maintain that Cortez and the rest of the conquistadores were Christians trying to bring the light of Jesus to the ignorant savages? This was a classic good guys fighting against the bad guys. So what that most of the bad guys were humans? After all, right against wrong should prevail no matter the species.

A hybrid white/person of color appointed by the predominantly white capitalist society to infiltrate and reconcile the people of color to the ways of the larger society instead becomes an agent of change to bring down and destroy the predominantly white capitalist society.
Well, this is actually a pretty crappy generalization. The predominate society in this movie was that of the planet being invaded, not white capitalists.

MY PREDICTION IS: it will have a good, if slightly disappointing opening week, and tank from there , as the biggest disaster in Movie History, money- wise. Extremely foolish to expect, in this economy, that people are going to rush to this kind of fantasy. AVATARS demise will run parallel with the tumbling fall of both Obama, and Tiger Woods. Good things come in threes.
Words from someone who obviously has not seen the movie.

Its all about the imagery, not the story. Same imperialist vs good-guy natives crap rehash. The technology is greatness, and Ill see it, but only once, just for the visuals.
This had a good story. If it were a movie, such as Independence Day, where the good guys were humans fighting aliens coming in to take over, you'd be cheering, right? Well, in this case, the good guys happen to be aliens. Nothing wrong with that. Have you ever heard of Cortez? He was human. He was not a good guy. The Aztecs weren't very good, either; but that didn't justify Cortez.

AVATAR is a visually stunning, but slow, shallow and abhorrent, science fiction adventure pitting evil human capitalists against heroic, spiritually sensitive aliens on the planet Pandora, who worship a false diety and nature. Too graphically intense for children, AVATAR has an abhorrent New Age, pagan, anti-capitalist worldview that promotes goddess worship and the destruction of the human
The words of one who cares more about political cant than the actual story. There was nothing New Age about it. And if you think it was anti-capitalist, then you must agree with one of the main characters who described the inhabitants of the world they wanted to exploit and blue monkeys that lived in trees. Oh, yes, we all know that humans could never be evil.

This is the wrong time for a movie to say not only are things bad, but your evil and its going to get worse. That just isn't going to sell.
Another characterization from someone who hasn't seen the movie.

star wars was uplifting, a tale about good triumphing over evil. from what Ive read, this one is about us being the evil, and its a downer. My prediction is that it would have a good opening weekend, and then fade into oblivion. people dont like downer movies, particularly ina recession.
Again, another 'review' by someone who hasn't bothered to see the movie. It's not a downer movie at all. The triumph over evil is good whatever the species through which it takes place. And, please, don't try to seriously maintain that the human species is basically good rather than evil. Our history would prove you spectacularly wrong.

I will never watch this propaganda piece of sh1t from Cameron. It is so obvious what hes done. Unobtainium. Invading for resources (oil, destroying rainforests).
Cameron you can go f@@@ yourself. So glad you decided not to become a US citizen.
Judging from this "review" from someone who hasn't seen the film, you're "Secret Agent Man" because you can't bear the calumny if you revealed who you really were. Go be gratuitously insulting elsewhere.

My hope is this debt-heavy POC sinks the limp-wristed Canadian once and for all.
Why is it that people who haven't seen something can be so gratuitously dismissive? It must be from a deep need to feel superior to something, anything. Good luck in that search for a meaningful existence.

Cameron has a habit of making 3-hour epic movies that are visually stunning, but have plots that fail miserably.
The plot didn't fail. This should be obvious if you had bothered to watch the movie.

I’ve read the plot from a number of different spoilers. Tell me one thing I mentioned specifically that I raised as objections that are not true.
I have to ask, James, is that you buddy? Did I hurt your feelings?
