Well, La Flor de Puebla bakery Riverdale has wonderful bolillos, which are sort of like french rolls. They make the best sandwiches, molletes, etc. I am not big on the conchas and other sweet baked goods, that is, the pan dulces, but the bread is fantastic. The pan dulces are usually too dry and not dulce enough, except, maybe for the crispy orejas occasionally.
Your experience clearly exceeds mine. My only acquaintance has been with “sweet” stuff, or things that looked like they would be. That soured me on everything else. Given what you said, I’ll try the “bread” stuff next time it’s offered.
