We hear it so often around this time of year: "Happy Holiday!" "Seasons Greeting!" Everyone seems to be in the mood for some kind of festive celebration.
Exactly what is the holiday that we are celebrating? Are we allowed to say it? Is it a forbidden word? Are we afraid to say it? Will people be offended if we actually tell them what the holiday is?
What ever happened to Christmas? What ever happened to the Christ of Christmas? Long ago there was no room in the inn. Is there any room for Him in todays celebration? Are little children ever told about Him?
What ever happened to the birth of the Saviour? Should it even be mentioned? Was it a significant event? Has it been a giant mistake that all of our calendars mark His birth as the starting point, and that His birth divides all of this worlds history into B.C. (before Christ) and A.D. (anno Domini, in the year of the Lord)?
In the past we were concerned about the secularization of the Christmas holiday and we urged people to keep Christ in Christmas. Now it seems we have even lost Christmas! Look at the decorations people put up on their lawns: blown up snowmen, beautifully lighted reindeer that sometime move back and forth, Santa Claus in all kinds of shapes and sizes, etc. If an alien from outer space were to visit earth at this season of the year and look at the holiday preparations and decorations, would he have any idea what Christmas is all about? (Not that I am a believer in alien visitations).
We observe a holiday at the beginning of every year and people dont seem to be ashamed of it. They say, "Happy New Year!" They dont say, "Happy Holiday!"

It is abundantly clear when "post-holiday" (note, no 'S') sales begin on December 26th.
An excellent point, indeed!
good insight
My VFW calendar on December 25th has a Fly The US Flag and is called Christmas Day.
The 26th is Kwanzaa(created in 1966). Good luck with that one.
Eff the secularists (if I may speak bluntly).
This season has always been and will always be about the birth of Jesus Christ, whose life, passion, and death bore witness to the possibility of freedom from sin and the eternal life of the soul in proximity to God in heaven.
Anyone doesn’t like it, you can kiss my butt and eff off - once again, sorry for being so blunt; mealy mouthed seems to be de riguer these days, but I just can’t seem to “get with it.”
Was at the mall today. Every store I was in said: “Merry Christmas” to me and I in turn replied the same. We have noticed this trend this Christmas season. It has been and is very prevelant. I think people should say whatever they want to say and we do. We say Merry Christmas and all the employees have smiled and said the same.
It IS Christ’s birthday and therefore Merry CHRISTmas. That’s how we feel. We say Merry Christmas...if someone does not want to respond the same manner...they can say whatever they want. As for us and our house though...we will serve the Lord and will forever and always say Merry Christmas and those who don’t like it don’t have to but that doesn’t mean we will stop saying it. No way. No how!
I went to Walmart, Target, Home Deopot, and several other stores to find a “Merry Christmas” sign....There were none.
I did find a few on ebay.
A friend of mine’s neighbor works at Wal-Mart. She said Merry Christmas to a customer and was called into the office by upper management and horribly chewed out, told that under no circumstances was she to say Merry Christmas to a customer.
That’s why I stopped shopping there.
