Someone on this board recommended Lucuifer's Hammer as a good read on a post-comet-strike scenario. I read it and what really opened my eyes was not the usual collapse of civilization, but the concept of the comet fragmenting and hitting the earth like buckshot - spreading the misery world-wide.

I had followed the Shoemaker-Levy collisions with Jupiter but for some reason, never eequated that happening to earth - always thought of just ONE BIG ONE slamming in.
