Apparently many WPA members were forced to pay dues to the Democrat Party while in some states they might be paid 80% less than other states. all on political lines.

Winston in the war room listening to reports of the battle must have been like an early Christmas.

I do have a snippet from the Meeting of the War Cabinet that I’m going to post tomorrow that will cover some of what was reported to Churchill, Halifax, and Chamberlain to name a few.

Churchill suggests in the excerpt above that Langsdorff could have prevailed by hanging back out of range of the cruisers' guns and using Spee's superior range to better advantage

Against multiple opponents, each individually faster, that's not exactly easy to do.

Now that you mention it, I guess that could be a problem. I didn't know about the speed factor, but even if they were evenly matched in that regard three widely dispersed opponents, closing at full steam, could be geometrically impossible to avoid all at once.

Somebody should inform the First Lord.

One other point to consider: The Spee was a commerce raider and as such was under orders to sink merchant ships, not seek out an engage the enemy’s warships. This, in my opinion, put restrictions on a commander’s strategy. Given the opportunity, they would break off from a battle before completion.

We will see this scenario replayed again with the Kriegsmarine, most notably with the Bismark.
