Absent from the big screen for over a decade now, Oscar-winning director James Cameron returns armed with a reported half-billion dollars, a story he’s been desperate to tell for 15 years, and the very latest in cutting-edge visual technology. The result is “Avatar,” a sanctimonious thud of a movie so infested with one-dimensional characters and PC clichés that not a single plot turn – small or large – surprises. I call it the “liberal tell,” where the early and obvious politics of the film gives away the entire story before the second act begins, and “Avatar” might be the sorriest example of this yet. For all the time and money and technology that went into its making, the thing that matters most – character and story – are strictly Afterschool Special.

That was a brutally vicious review. I loved it.
When the usual suspects trot out ‘metaphor’ and ‘allegory’ that means the film hits you over the head with 1,001 clues in case you are too thick to understand its antiwar message.

I sense the same kind of hype about AVATAR. As long as the reviews are as bad as the one above I will save my money.
Cameron should have released “Titanic II”. At least that film would have made some dough. This “epic” will be history in a month.

Mr. Nolte would of not wrote a review if he had not seen it. FOX is going all out with lots of pre-release screenings. There are already review by AP, Variety and Hollywood Reporter. Obviously FOX felt confident the movie would get good review from the MSM. Can’t go wrong with leftist movie reviewers with the “Dances With Smurfs” themes.

Makes sense. Cameron created another formulaic, simple, predictable film called TITANIC, but it was a basic love story, so it worked. and he made millions.
He produced another formulaic, simple, predictable film called AVATAR, but it is not a love story, so people won’t care. He’ll have to give back all the money he made before.

The alien in Enemy Mine was asexual, it wasn’t a he or a she, but an it. More alien than the aliens in Avatar. Some lizards on earth are this was and can reproduce via parthenogenesis.
