I need a reality check from other FReepers about what might be a reasonable amount to spend for a wedding. The cost seems outrageous to me so I would like to hear from parents who have recently paid for one. How much did you spend?
Was only two years ago when the dollar was caring more weight.
Ok NOW it wil cost you 50
We got married in 1977 on the SS Princess Louise in Terminal Island harbor... the ship was scuttled and no longer exists today. No cruise... just a jazz band my husband knew- got a deal with them and fed them. Dinner for 50 family and close friends. Everything was about $650. My Father paid for the photos about $100, Mom bought my dress and veil - $150 (sample sale). I bought my husband’s suit and my bridesmaids dresses (I worked for in a clothing store at the time and got a deal). I would say we were pretty much under $1200.
the best are the least expensive....really...i been to the $50,000 and the $500 and eloped (no guests...just the two of us and the justice) its certainly shown me that less is more. the $50,000 ones (2) (one was my 2nd,the other one of my sons) were about showing off and flaunting it. the $500 (my first) was very nice, and lasted 20 years...the last one...eloped...the best, just the two of us.
the money is about vanity
weddings are really about marriage and commitment....that’s free.
It isn’t the purchase price, it is the TCO and ROI that matter. Going into debt for the feast is goofy. Making certain the new family has working capital and the ability to draw as they grow is huge.
imho
ymmv
All of them.
It costs 10,000 dollars, 2 weeks of planning, all of your peace and serenity and joy, most of your future earnings, and a lifetime of slowly simmering resentment and torment.
All of them.
