Fellow PGA Pros Speak Out On Tiger Woods: 'A Phony And A Fake'

Jay Busbee

This is how bad it's getting for Tiger Woods: even his fellow pros are now starting to speak out against him.

First it was Jesper Parnevik expressing his frustration and disappointment, saying he "probably thought [Woods] was a better guy than he is." But Parnevik's outrage is understandable, given that he was the one who initially introduced Elin Nordegren to Tiger Woods.

Now, however, two players with no apparent direct connection to the scandal are taking their shots at Tiger. Ben Crane, an eight-year pro with two wins on the PGA Tour, and Charles Warren, a six-year veteran of the PGA Tour, each sharply criticized Woods, on the record, in the current issue of Life & Style magazine. (Visor tip: Sports By Brooks)

"This is no surprise to anyone who knows Tiger," said Crane, pictured above. "He's a phony and a fake and he can't retain that squeaky-clean endorsement deal any longer."

Crane also hinted that Elin Woods could have known all about Woods' alleged extramarital activities. "She's no fool," he said, and speculated that she possibly "turned a blind eye because of the money and the kids and the lifestyle he provides."

Warren also had a bit of advice for Elin, with uncompromising words for Woods. "She was very young when Jesper introduced them," Warren said. "She had stars in her eyes and maybe dollar signs too. But no, she should not stay with him.

What kind of message would that send to her sister and mother and all the women out there? prominence and, in turn, their paychecks. But Crane's comments indicate that Tiger's alleged proclivities were an open secret among Tour players.

Barack Obama is about as completely manufactured a political character as this nation has seen

There you go - priorities! Take Tiger of the screen - and let's get back to the real fake and phony 'idol'.

“I actually have no respect for these guys. They haven’t done anything other than pile on. And sound envious to me.

Tiger is a disgrace. No sense in adding their two cents.”

WELL SAID CAJUNGIRL....well said!

Perhaps some of these guys have strong moral/religious beliefs and do have an opinion

You're grasping at straws here! IF these guys had strong moral/religious beliefs - they would most definitely keep 'their opinion' to themselves.

I'm not saying players should be speaking but if they're asked and they do comment I see nothing wrong with it.

Comment? Try 'it's none of my business'.

Maybe you should re read your post. Are you honestly saying that God will forgive Tiger for what he done to his wife, but Tiger should not / won’t forgive the golfers who talked about it? Since when is talking about sin worse than commiting it? Oh I know, since the liberal mindset took over.

AS I recall, Elin had some photos taken of her before the wedding.

I recall this because, as an email server admin, I recall that men pretty much passed along a huge PPT file with those pics back when Tiger got married. It clogged my email servers.

I guess I might be old-fashioned, but if every man in the universe with Internet access can see his wife’s goodies, should we be surprised if fidelity in the marriage might not be important?

"Jack Nicklaus said the fallout over Tiger Woods ' car crash and allegations of extramarital affairs is "none of my business."

Jack has probably pissed off FR's beloved Frantzie. lol

Jack is right, it is none of his business; but it is the business of the media to report the story. While he probably thinks Tiger is a putz, there is no reason for him to state a fact everyone already knows; especially since he is the only golfer who has won more majors than Jack. To speak out would seem to be a bit self-serving and he has too much class for that; or at least I think so.

Well, it seemed a bit redundant and piling on to me.

Tiger Wood's is a billionaire entertainer. He made $110 million last year with $100 million coming from endorsements. He has a manufactured image ever since Nike signed him up for $40 million before he ever even teed up as a professional. The reality is that we really know very little about him. In that regard, he is like Obama. Tiger Woods is not a victim, any more than Britney Spears is or Michael Jackson was.

I don’t think Tiger is going to live thru this.

Oh, please stop being a drama queen. I am sure that he will hire the best PR team money can buy to resurrect his image. And Tiger will survive the embarrassment with the help of a sycophantic media and an adoring public who will forgive and forget. It will be Tiger the victim and a object of sympathy. Suicide? LOL

And why are they trashing his wife at the same time?

I don't know who is trashing his wife. Tiger is probably the best known sports figure on the planet as well as being the highest paid. He and his family are public figures who like most high profile entertainers are scrutinized and are news whenever they screw up. In Tiger's case, many are dismayed to find out that his carefully crafted image is far different than the reality, i.e., a serial adulterer who uses his celebrityhood to nail anything he can get his hands on. Not the kind of guy you want on the box of Wheaties.

I guess we should have suspected something when Tiger supported Obama. Two phonies who have been fooling the public for a long time.

“I guess you are right - she has decided to stay with him.”

None of our business... if they had an “open” relationship then that’s their business.

Perhaps this is a rehash of the whole “Hillary” syndrome here... the wife didn’t care until it hit the tabloids and it threatened the gravy train?

I bet if we ever got honest, having a bit on the side at least once in people’s life is more common that people might expect. In some relationships it is tolerated, and in a few, probably encouraged (read any good personal ads in Craigslist lately?).

Considering the HUGE increase in his muscles and physique, I'd say steroids is a real possibility and show him as a fraud on the course, too.

He was winning since the day he stepped on the tour as a bean pole

Can't see how steroids would help him

The reality is that we really know very little about him.

Why do you feel you need to know? If you enjoy golf, you watch him; if not, you don't. Or hire a detective and have him followed, if your need to know is so great. And don't buy Wheaties if you are so offended.

Never understood why anyone needs a hero w/the Hollywood crowd or w/sports.

I’m gonna guess that the women wasn’t, isn’t, the real Tiger story.

I’m gonna guess that Tiger has a problem w/ pain killers, sleeping pills, and maybe alcohol, probably started when he was playing with pain years ago. The serial flings also would match a pattern of a life out of control.

And, I’m gonna bet that the wife got fed up with all of the drugs and alcohol. Yeah, the women in the tabloids didn’t help, but pretty sure she knew what she got when she married him.

Just my hunch.

Maybe Rush senses that too?

Ben Crane is a deeply religious guy. Have a little sympathy for him even if he is a religious nut.

Crane takes a leap of faith on PGA Tour

"Crane has been busy this offseason. He spent a week in New Orleans with Heather, his parents, his brother and sister-in-law, a nephew and a cousin, on a mission trip to clean up after Hurricane Katrina. "There was more devastation than you can ever imagine," he says. "It was overwhelming. We were gutting houses and nothing could be saved. I took a photo album out of one of the houses, handed it to the [owner] and said, 'I'm sorry.' It just rips your heart out to think everything they have is gone. I think our group got more out of it than the people we were helping. We were so blessed to be doing the work."

"Crane wears well in a secular environment because, as McQuitty says, he's not in your face with his beliefs. If you ask, though, he'll tell you where he's coming from. "I want to be the biggest overachiever [ever], for sure," Crane says. "My wife and I talk all the time. Ephesians 3:20 says that by the grace of God, you can do infinitely more than you dare to dream or ask or imagine. That's the verse I carried in my yardage book during BellSouth. Without my relationship with God, I wouldn't be on tour. Through my relationship with the Lord, God gives you a sense of peace, strength and courage to do things greater than we're capable of on our own. That's when we know we're in the will of God, when we are doing things that are greater than us."

Shut up Ben. Tiger Woods is the image the PGA wants. It is none of your business.

Never understood athlete worship at all. The guy whacks and pokes a little ball around a big patch of grass. So what? I’m not denying it can be fun. But worship the guy? People need to get a life.
